The long wait for info Destiny 2's second major expansion has come to an end, putting to rest months of rumor and speculation. DLC2 will be officially titled Warmind, likely in reference to the memorable Russian AI, Rasputin, introduced in the original Destiny. Destiny 2's second expansion, the second half of the game's first expansion pass, will officially launch across all supported platforms on May 8.

Warmind's announcement was made as part of Bungie's latest update to Destiny 2's development roadmap. The newest roadmap details three planned major updates to Destiny 2: one May 8 which includes the Warmind expansion, one in the summer, and finally the third update this September. Announced details regarding Warmind itself are limited to the expansion's name and release date, but more info will be revealed during an April 24 livestream.

Based on Bungie's definition of post-launch content for Destiny 2 and the precedent set by the Curse of Osiris expansion, players can expect a specific amount of content released with Warmind. That content will presumably include a story campaign, with unique in-game missions and cutscenes; a new destination to travel to and explor;, a new Leviathan Raid Lair; PvP content; and plenty of new Legendary and Exotic loot.

destiny 2 post-launch content guide

An abundant amount of changes and content will release alongside Destiny 2's new expansion, and will be free to all Destiny 2 players. Bungie has revealed these planned changes in past development roadmap updates, but have now confirmed their release on May 8. Keep in mind that these changes will also go into effect alongside the start of Season 3 on May 8.

Features planned to be introduced on May 8 alongside the release of Warmind and the start of Season 3 include:

  • Seasonal Crucible Rankings
  • Private Matches
  • Vault Space Increase
  • Multi-Emote
  • Exotic Weapon Masterworks
  • Seasonal Vendor Progression
  • Exotic Weapon Sandbox Changes
  • Heroic Strike Modifiers
  • Nightfall Challenge Cards

The following summer patch for Destiny 2, which will also be part of Season 3, will add a new seasonal event, improvements to the Faction Rally event, Bounties, PC Clan Chat, and Exotic Armor Sandbox Changes. Note that the Exotic Armor changes were originally included with this update, but they have been pushed back to September.

Outside of the name, release date, and overarching update details, that's all players officially know about Destiny 2's Warmind expansion and the changes planned to be released alongside it. There's plenty to be speculated on, such as whether the previously leaked titles like The Fallen Warmind and Gods of Mars were accurate but were ultimately changed. And there's also those details regarding the story and Ana Bray's role. Destiny 2's April 24 livestream should fill in some of the blanks.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Warmind expansion will be released on May 8 for all supported platforms.
