With the current season of Destiny 2 winding down, players are preparing for massive changes next week once season 3 kicks off. One of the biggest changes to the game is the arrival of Warmind, the latest expansion pack which brings with it all new content including a new campaign story as well as a new location on Mars to explore. In addition, Bungie has promised several changes with the leveling and progression system once Warmind arrives and as expected, players have a new level cap to get to.

Following in the footsteps of December's Curse of Osiris expansion, the second expansion pack for Destiny 2 further increases the level cap to 30. Players can earn XP from any of the game's activities, whether PvE or PvP, to advance towards this new cap. In terms of player power, the soft level cap will jump from 300 to 340, which means all blue level (rare) gear will drop at a maximum power of 340. A medium cap is set at 370, while the new maximum power level is 380, or 385 with the help of item mods.

To help players achieve these new levels, all endgame content is getting a buff. However, activities such as the Leviathan Raid aren't getting a true power level increase, but the rewards and drops earned inside the raid will be getting a buff to help players advance towards the new 380 power cap.

Once Warmind arrives with Season 3 next week, players will likely find that the progression system as a whole has been intentionally slowed way down. While many players have expressed that leveling to the maximum cap has been easier than in the first game, Bungie is tweaking the system for everyone starting in season 3 and pushing players to participate in endgame activities to make the climb easier. Gear earned from older activities will now drop up to that activity's level cap while exotics earned from public events will decrypt at the same level as a legendary and then slowly increase as players advance beyond 340.

Destiny 2 and its Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Warmind launches May 8, 2018.
