There's no denying that Warlocks received the long end of the stick with Destiny 2's new Void 3.0 changes. Though all classes were given some new and powerful aspects and fragments to play with, Warlocks are by far the best class to run the new Void subclass on in Destiny 2.

New players and even returning players might feel a bit confused with all the new aspects and fragments, directly inspired by Stasis. Given how Void has also been one of the least played subclasses for Warlock for some time now due to how strong Solar has been, a lot of players are looking for inspiration for their new Voidlock builds. This guide will show some of the best aspects, fragments, and gear for Void 3.0 Warlocks.

Updated on June 18, 2022, by Anastasia Maillot: Now that season 16 is over and most of the new seasonal artifacts favor Solar 3.0, using Void subclass on Warlocks can feel extremely underwhelming. There have also been balance changes and bugs affecting certain grenades, mainly the Vortex Grenade, which has made some choices for Voidlocks less appealing when buildcrafting. With these changes in mind, this Warlock Void 3.0 guide has been updated to include options that players can go for when seasonal artifacts do not favor the Void subclass.

Void Aspects & Fragments

The Void subclass has been completely reworked to match the Stasis subclass. Players can mix and match their own build of choice by enabling their favorite aspects and fragments as needed. However, the trick to making sure Void 3.0 stays relevant is to make a build that isn't reliant on any seasonal artifact mods. This can be challenging, but the following breakdown should give players some ideas.

Void Melee

Destiny 2 Warlock Void Pocket Singularity Melee

Currently, only one type of melee is available, which is the new Pocket Singularity melee. This ability pushes enemies and makes them volatile, which explodes them in a small area of effect. No new melees have been or were released, but given the range of Pocket Singularity, there isn't much more a Voidlock needs.

Void Grenades

Destiny 2 Warlock Void Vortex Grenade

Following the bug and what seems to be a slight nerf of the Vortex Grenade damage, these grenades are no longer considered to be the best available. While they still work well and reliably to create Elemental Wells, they lack the sheer damage they used to do, especially when paired with Contarverse Holds. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference.

Warlocks can now instead go for the Scatter Grenade, which covers a fairly large area and works beautifully even when paired with Elemental Well mods. High discipline will still be important but given the recent changes to how much damage resistance high resilience provides, Warlocks can choose to spec into resilience instead while creating Elemental Wells or Exotics to refresh their grenade cooldowns.

Void Aspects

Destiny 2 Warlock Void Child Of The Old Gods Aspect

Child of the Old Gods was initially a very strong aspect at the beginning of season 16 but lost a lot of its importance as the season progressed. Moreover, in season 17 and beyond, it pales in comparison to some of the other aspects that Warlocks have available for the Void subclass.

Chaos Accelerant will instead be the go-to choice for many Warlocks without seasonal artifact mods to support them and with the nerf of the Vortex Grenade. This will buff Scatter Grenades by making their particles track to nearby targets, causing even more mayhem.

Destiny 2 Warlock Void Feed The Void Aspect

Feed the Void is the absolute must-have second choice for Void Warlocks, making players almost unkillable by granting them Devour, which essentially heals the player when they land final blows on enemies. This is, to this day, one of the best tools in a Warlock's toolbox when it comes to survival, even in higher difficulty content.

This also extends the duration of Devour. To activate this aspect, players simply need to use their Void abilities to defeat enemies. Devour is the perfect choice going forward, on top of the buff to the resilience stat, which at 100 provides a 40% damage resistance. Pair this with Devour, and Voidlocks will be unstoppable.

Void Fragments

Destiny 2 Warlock Echo Of Provision Void Fragment

Now that all fragments are out and Void 3.0 no longer has the artifact mods to crutch on, players will need to be much more strategic about which fragments to use for their build. The most important fragment for Voidlocks will be Echo of Instability, which will allow players to enjoy the chaotic effects of Volatile Rounds even after season 16. Here's what's recommended for players going into Solar 3.0 and Arc 3.0, as per Divide's build guide.

  • Echo of Instability: Grenade kills grant Volatile Rounds for the player.
  • Echo of Expulsion: Void ability final blows explode targets.
  • Echo of Undermining: Grenades slow down enemies, and they take more damage. This effect is called "weaken", and is key in any Warlock void build.

Other good options for fragments following season 16's end and beyond include:

  • Echo of Remnants: Grenades have increased duration. This only applies to grenades with lingering effects and is perfect for players who still prefer Vortex over Scatter grenades.
  • Echo of Persistence: Void buffs have increased duration. Perfect for players who wish to build around the Devour buff.
  • Echo of Starvation: Picking up Orbs of Power grants the Devour buff. This works, because even with the recovery penalty, players will be a powerhouse thanks to the resilience stat buff.

Void Supers

Destiny 2 Warlock Nova Bomb Cataclysm Ultimate

The three different Nova Bombs generally speaking come down to personal preference. However, the Nova Bomb: Vortex seems the weakest out of the three as of now, with Nova Warp and Nova Bomb: Cataclysm being the strongest. The latter is especially good in PvE, where players can afford to cast a slower-moving Nova Bomb.

Mods & Artifact Mods

Destiny 2 Volatile Flow Artifact Mod

Season 17's artifact mods do not favor the Void 3.0 subclass, but even so, players have a lot they can do to make their Voidlock build powerful. Elemental Well mods continue to be incredibly powerful, as they can be made in abundance and play perfectly into a specific subclass. Most are also quite cheap and triumph over Charged with Light mods in many ways. Here are just a few Elemental Well mods players will want to get their hands on:

  • Well of Tenacity: Provides damage resistance when players pick up a Void elemental well.
  • Seeking Wells/Bountiful Wells: Seeking Wells lets wells track to the player, while Bountiful Wells creates more wells.
  • Elemental Charge: Picking up an Elemental well charges the player with light, much like the Charged with Light mod.
  • Font of Might: Picking up a well matching the player's subclass buffs weapon damage for that subclass (here, Void).
  • Elemental Ordnance/Melee Wellmaker: Grenade kills create Elemental wells/Powered melee kills create Elemental wells. Players can pick and choose either based on their personal preferences.

Some of the build's mods can be tweaked according to player preferences. Overall, it's a highly flexible build.

Weapons & Gear

Destiny 2 Funnelweb SMG

A Void weapon is the best choice for any Void build that uses Elemental Wells. Players can either go for the Funnelweb secondary SMG, which is one of the most reliable Void weapons even past season 16. Look for one with Subsistence and Frenzy perks or Subsistence and Adrenaline Junkie perks.

Other great Void weapons that require no special ammo are The Title SMG from this year's Guardian Games, Gnawing Hunger auto rifle, and Unforgiven SMG from the new Duality dungeon. For Exotic weapons, and for a hardcore Void build, players can also try and farm the Vow of the Disciple raid Exotic, Collective Obligation, which is a pulse rifle able to deal powerful Void debuffs.

Destiny 2 Contraverse Hold

Since Devour and resilience changes can make Warlocks unbeatable, building around Rifts and The Stag isn't as desirable anymore or even necessary. Instead, players can go for Contraverse Holds for those deadly Vortex Grenade builds if they don't mind the reduced damage.

Another option is Verity's Brow, which pairs well with the Scatter Grenade build created by Divide, though it does pair well with any grenade in general. Despite its awful appearance, Verity's Brow is a powerful Exotic that allows players to charge their grenade cooldowns quickly with weapon damage matching their subclass.

If Verity's Brow isn't an option, a more generalist approach with the Nezarec's Sin helmet is also possible. With this helmet on, any Void kills will boost the ability recharge rate for all of the player's abilities. The downside is that it isn't focused on grenades alone.

Destiny 2 Secant Filaments Exotic Boots

The new Warlock Exotic boots Secant Filaments are also an option for players who prefer using an Empowering Rift. The Secant Filaments will grant the player Devour whenever the Rift is cast, and enemies fired at from the Rift will be disrupted.
