Few characters have cast a shadow over the Destiny universe as vast as the one the Hive god of cunning, Savathun, has since players first got their hands on the game in 2014. Things are set to come to a head in Destiny 2's next expansion, The Witch Queen, which will see guardians take the fight to the titular hive queen. With the expansion's release right around the corner, Bungie latest ViDoc offers keen guardians a fresh look at what the expansion will entail when players get their hands on it.

As mentioned, The Witch Queen is the next major expansion to Destiny 2 as guardians battle Savathun, who has somehow been reborn in The Traveler's Light. Savathun isn't the only Hive empowered by the Light, either, as guardians will have to battle the Hive guardians of the Lucent Brood inside Savathun's mysterious and dangerous Throne World. Guardians will need to venture into the darkest depths of the Throne World to discover how Savathun stole the Light and what they must do to take it back.

As with the rest of the promotional material released thus far, Bungie's new Destiny 2 ViDoc puts the spotlight on the now Light-powered Savathun and her Lucent Brood. The studio is still coy about sharing details of the story itself, and only offer little teases of what players will see happen in the campaign. Bungie is promising there will be "bombshell" reveals in the campaign, though, which will have major ramifications on the Destiny universe going forward.

Bungie also gave players a first taste of Destiny 2's next season, Season of the Risen, launching alongside The Witch Queen. The new season sees the return of Cabal Empress Caiatl, who steps forward to aid guardians in their battles against the Lucent Brood across the Sol System.

One area the studio was not coy when sharing details was The Witch Queen's gameplay, with extended looks at features like the legendary campaign, weapon crafting, and the Void subclass rework. Bungie also dove a little deeper into the new gear players will take into battle against the Lucent Brood, from the dangerous new glaive to the outlandish exotics inside The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen.

Bungie closed out the ViDoc reiterating The Witch Queen, and Year 5 of Destiny 2, is set to be the most ambitious year yet for the game and, given what was shown, it is hard to argue this point. Destiny 2 is set to see some big changes in the expansion and more are set to come in Year 5, such as Solar and Arc subclass reworks, setting the stage for the final showdown with The Darkness.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen launches on February 22 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
