This week, developer Bungie gave Destiny 2 players a small taste of what they can expect from the upcoming 30th Anniversary pack. First, a new product listing for the pack appeared that explains some of its previously-unknown contents, including a special helmet ornament, an exotic sparrow, and a unique emblem. The pack will also include a new 3-player dungeon for fireteams to complete with unique gear to collect and the returning apparently Gjallarhorn unlocked upon its completion.

But alongside the Destiny 2 pack, Bungie will also release an update for the game that features some balance changes. As of yet, the developer has not revealed all of the changes that are coming this December but a few have been teased. Among them are a nerf to the Revenant Hunter’s Shatterdive, a nerf to the Dunemarchers Titan exotic, and a nerf to the Vex Mythoclast exotic fusion rifle.

It’s the change to the Vex Mythoclast that has drawn some controversy within the Destiny community. While many agree that the gun is too strong in PvP, some feel that a nerf with hurt its viability in PvE. On top of that, this is a raid exotic – one that can be very hard to get, depending on RNG – and so the argument is being made that it should be strong.

The good news for concerned Destiny players/Vex Mythoclast owners is that Bungie does not plan to make the exotic fusion rifle completely unusable. In a follow-up Tweet to his initial one about the Vex Mythoclast tuning, Bungie Community Manager DMG revealed that the studio does not plan to nerf the gun into the ground. In his words, the dev team is looking into “toning down” the weapon.

It is worth mentioning that DMG’s phrasing says that Bungie is “looking into” the Vex Mythoclast nerf, so it may not arrive in time for the Anniversary Pack this December. But given how strong the exotic is in PvP, it is highly likely that some change is on the way, regardless of how significant it is.

Prior to Season of the Lost, Vex Mythoclast was criticized for not being strong enough given its place as a raid exotic. The damage and range were not particularly impressive and the Linear Fusion mode left a lot to be desired. However, a buff to Vex Mythoclast’s damage, its catalyst, and the extremely useful Particle Deconstruction mod have helped the exotic become one of the best weapons in Destiny 2 this season.

While it is not surprising to hear that a Vex Mythoclast nerf is on the way, hopefully some players can take comfort knowing it won’t be completely useless come December. More importantly, those players who are still running Vault of Glass every week in the hopes of getting the gun won’t have to feel like they missed out on the Vex’s heyday. That was definitely the case in Destiny 1.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
