As a sequel to a very popular loot based shooter, Destiny 2 has a long history of fan favorite loot. While the studio continues to crank out new gear each season, including popular guns like the new Lorentz Driver exotic linear fusion rifle, nostalgia remains a very strong component. Longtime fans clearly have their favorites, many of which have yet to make the jump to the current game.

Bungie has slowly been bringing classic weapons back to Destiny 2, even surprising players by announcing that the fan favorite exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn is finally returning later this year as part of the Bungie 30th anniversary event. Last season not only saw the return of the Vault of Glass raid and its big boss man Atheon, but the popular fusion rifle known as Vex Mythoclast also made its return. The weapon became incredibly popular, though fans questioned just how accessible it actually was.

One point of contention with the exotic was its drop rate. As with most exotic drops that come exclusively from raids, just like Last Wish's One Thousand Voices, fans continued to debate what percentage the weapon's drop rate was. One fan took things to extreme levels by turning to the community, posting a survey to help calculate a drop rate based on responses. Out of 1095 usable answers, Redditor Pinnkeyy discovered that 61% of the responders saw it drop once or more, while 56% saw it drop only once.

In order to distill the numbers into something more accurate, the user then divided the total number of drops, which was 820, by the total number of runs which came out to be 27013. Ultimately, this calculates to an average drop rate of just 3.04%, though since the drop rate can change over time, the number isn't incredibly accurate. To help, the Destiny 2 Redditor also asked users at what number run they finally got a Mythoclast, which helped generate a graph to demonstrate that the more people play, the higher the chances of the weapon dropping. While the drop rate remains around 3%, things started to stabilize a bit at the 30th attempt, as the lines started to flatline at more consistent drop rate numbers.

Either way, the Vex Mythoclast appears to be another rare raid weapon that players will either need to be extremely lucky to see drop after a couple of runs, or prepare to dive into the Vault of Glass more than a few times. The gun is definitely in high demand in Season 15 as Fusion Rifles in general have become incredibly strong thanks to mods like Particle Destruction. It also helps that this weapon type and the Mythoclast in general recieved numerous buffs, which has rocketed them up the tier list.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
