With Destiny 2 preparing for the launch of its next major expansion, Bungie has committed to completely reworking the player experience by sunsetting older content and focusing on improvements to new features. Not only are some weapons and armor leaving loot pools in Beyond Light's sunsetting efforts, but activities and missions from both the vanilla version and DLC expansions will also be on the way out in November.

In response to the loss of these missions, one Destiny 2 player has taken it upon themselves to chronicle the adventure that players have experienced until now. On his YouTube channel Jabonte, the player has released an initial trailer for a series that intends to keep a sort of video log of every mission that is set to be sunset when Beyond Light releases and retools how players experience the game.

The series, reportedly recorded on a PC version of Destiny 2, will include a collection of cutscenes related to the content that Bungie has already announced will be getting cut when the sunsetting begins. Recorded at 1080p with 60 fps, Jabonte has made sure that every piece of footage will be at the highest settings available with the current build of Destiny 2, offering some players performance not available on all platforms. Considering the lasting effects Beyond Light's changes will have on the series in the future, a series like this may be the only way to access some of the content that had previously been available in the last few years of the game's lifecycle.

There are currently a number of resources players can use if they are looking for this type of content in order to keep track of the past achievements and story beats from the series. Jabonte even mentions in the description of the series trailer that the inspiration for this series are the longform Destiny 2 videos already on YouTube that show off all of the cutscenes within the game. However, Jabonte does claim that his series is a more edited version, which may be beneficial for new players arriving with Beyond Light who may need to catch up on the story so far.

As many players consider Destiny 2's content vaulting to be a positive step forward for the series, it does still have the potential of cutting off players from some of their favorite activities. Similarly, with hours of story content being reeled back, a project that preserves the sunsetting content could be exactly what Bungie needs to draw in new players. It still remains to be seen how successful Destiny 2's attempt to keep new players in the loop will be, but the player community is clearly up to the task of making up for wherever Bungie's focus dips.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
