Destiny 2 lets players engage with the story and gameplay as they please, running old or new campaigns in any order they might prefer, learning all the mechanics by trial and error, or checking them out online. Players being at liberty to do what they want is core for Bungie, and it shows in Destiny 2's many customization options for cosmetic choices and actual player builds. Among these options, Destiny 2 players can use mods to change the way their builds work, have a plethora of different weapons and armors to pick from, and are able to unlock many Exotics.

Exotics are among the most distinctive drops in Destiny 2, with some of them being exclusive items only obtainable through Raids or other activities. The Exotics are interesting because they can alter the way Destiny 2 is played, with weapons changing their behavior from others in their categories and armor pieces granting special abilities based on class. Not all Exotics are good however, and there are several bad ones that some may even define as useless - not worth using over others.

Destiny 2's Worst Exotic Weapons

With 83 total Exotic weapons in Destiny 2, it was inevitable some of them would be much less useful than others. Among them, Jade Rabbit is universally seen as a subpar scout rifle that doesn't bring much to the game, and its perks make it more like a bad Legendary. Skyburner's Oath has a similar fate as another Exotic scout rifle that doesn't have much going on for it, one that can't be redeemed even via its catalyst and Orb of Powers.

Legend of Acrius is one of Destiny 2's first Exotic weapons, coming with the Leviathan Raid from Year 1, but it never got to shine being a shotgun in the Power slot and having a much shorter range than its stats seem to indicate. Then, Salvation's Grip and Cryosthesia 77K are two of the three Stasis Exotic weapons released thus far, but they both suffer from being less valuable than most Legendary options, especially after the introduction of the Headstone perk and Ager's Scepter. The worst Exotic weapon in the game is likely a sword named Worldline Zero, which was only ever useful when "sword skating" was feasible, but now serves no purpose.

Destiny 2's Most Useless Titan Exotics

As far as class-specific Exotic armor pieces are concerned, there are a few that stand out not for their greatness, but because Destiny 2 has many more worthwhile options. One of the worst Exotics for Titans is Eternal Warrior, as all it does is provide an underwhelming overshield when activating the Fists of Havoc Super. Another one is a pair of Exotic arms called Icefall Mantle, and the reason why this is the case is they provide an overshield ability in place of the Titan's Barricade, but also slow the Titan down a lot.

Being less mobile in Destiny 2 is bad for PvP and PvE, and the overshield still doesn't make up for that, making Icefall Mantle one of the worst Exotics for the Titan. Another is Severance Enclosure, a chest armor that has niche uses but generally feels underwhelming and unrewarding to use, as it only works well with finishers and some melee abilities while having an internal cooldown.

Destiny 2's Most Useless Hunter Exotics

Hunters have a wide array of useless Exotics too, and one of the worst is the recently reprised Radiant Dance Machines. These boots were powerful when introduced with Season of the Lost, but quickly became useless after a nerf. They used to be great when paired with either the Stasis Hunters' slow and freeze on Dodge or with a mod called Dynamo, which grants Super energy whenever using a class ability near enemies. This was all changed a few weeks after their debut.

Another useless pair of Exotic legs is Gemini Jester, an Exotic that temporarily disorients enemies and removes their radar when dodging nearby. The main issue is that Gemini Jester can be fun to use in lower-tier content and some PvP matches, but everywhere else they are not worth the Exotic slot. One of the worst Exotics in the game is currently Oathkeeper, a pair of gloves that makes players capable of holding bow charges indefinitely. Considering bow charges already last a long time, there is no reason to use Oathkeeper in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2's Most Useless Warlock Exotics

Among the Warlocks' Exotics, one of the worst is Skull of Dire Ahamkara. Once a powerful choice for both PvE and PvP, this item was made useless with Season of the Lost when the already limited amount of Super energy coming from kills with Nova Bomb was reduced. Getting multiple kills with Nova Bomb is already hard in all of Destiny 2's modes, which further makes this Exotic worth keeping in the Vault. This holds true for Apotheosis Veil as well, an Exotic helmet that provides health and energy to all class abilities when using a Super, which is a trivial bonus that only comes in handy once in a while.

Another bad Exotic for the Warlock is Claws of Ahamkara, as all it does is provide an additional melee charge. This is good for general gameplay, as it doesn't require any specific subclass, but melee abilities are hardly a good focus for Warlock. Lastly, what is arguably the worst Exotic in Destiny 2 for Warlocks is Sanguine Alchemy, a chest armor that extends any Rift's duration with kills. This ability is trivial when compared to the Boots of the Assembler that do all Sanguine Alchemy does but better, while adding bonus healing or damage to allies for extra utility.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
