The upcoming Season of the Drifter and Joker's Wild add-on in Destiny 2 is bringing a new Gambit Prime mode to the game, along with armor sets tailored to let players fill specific roles within the Gambit game mode. Now, Bungie may also be teasing some of the unique perks that those new armor sets will bring.

In Bungie's recent lore and narrative preview titled “The Reckoning,” keen-eyed fans have picked out some interesting details within the prose. One of the new Gambit roles roles (as determined by the corresponding armor set) is known as the Sentry, who is in charge of guarding the bank against the invader from the enemy side. The narrative preview says the Sentry “always seemed to know where the other Invader was,” which has some fans speculating that the Sentry armor set may get a unique perk that will allow them to locate an invading enemy more easily.

The Reaper, on the other hand, is a role that is all about killing the enemy PvE combatants. The lore entry says it specializes "in the enemies of humanity,” which may be teasing that a player with a Reaper armor set will get bonus damage against PvE enemies in Gambit, or at least some derivative of that perk.

The third role, the Collector, is meant to focus on collecting and banking the motes in Gambit, with the narrative preview saying that the Collector “grabbed a bunch of Motes” and summoned a “giant blocker.” While that only hints at the armor set’s abilities, from information via IGN it was revealed that the Collector will be able to bank 20 Motes instead of the usual 15 maximum and be able to summon a Tier 4 Blocker, one tier higher than the usual highest Tier 3.

Lastly, it appears as if the Invader set will be able to lock the enemy’s bank and steal Motes from their bank. This one is perhaps the most straightforward in the narrative preview, with the character in it saying, “The armor locked the Bank down, and I took their Motes right out of it.”

Many fans have been asking for Destiny 2 to provide a way to enhance player-chosen roles in the game with specific builds and sets. So, these upcoming armor sets look to be Destiny 2’s first foray into making that fan request a reality.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Season of the Drifter begins on March 5, 2019.
