In order to complete Destiny 2's Tribute Hall, players need a lot of materials, but it appears that the desire to farm materials with as little effort as possible is having a negative effect on another activity in the game, specifically the Black Armory Forges. Although the Forges are two seasons old, and they are not the most relevant activity in the game anymore, there are a few reasons to still play them including being a viable option to completing a step in the Lumina exotic quest.

However, with the newest farming method that seems to have spread through the Destiny 2 community like wildfire, it is probably best to avoid matchmaking into the Forges for now for anyone wanting to complete the activity for legitimate reasons. That's because this new farming method consists of players going completely idle in the Forges. While matchmaking with other idle players is preferable for those farming the activity, it creates a negative experience for any player wanting to legitimately play the activity.

Some players are dropping their Power levels down as low as possible in an attempt to avoid matchmaking with higher-powered Guardians actually trying to play the Forges, but not all players are doing that. And even so, the matchmaking system may still pair players with others who will sit idle throughout the entire activity farming materials.

The best option for players who want to complete Forge activities is to find a pre-made group via their friends list or using an LFG site until the popularity of this farming method dies down. This will likely become less popular as time passes considering that players can drastically lower the cost of Tributes by completing daily bounties, so as players get closer to that max 80% discount and the cost of materials subsequently goes down, players will have less reason to farm.

It just so happens to be a bit of a perfect storm right now as the player population has surged as many lapsed players have returned to the game as the release of the Shadowkeep expansion approaches this fall. The current Season of Opulence has been generally regarded as a success with rewarding activities like the Menagerie and the new Crown of Sorrow raid, plus Moments of Triumph and the upcoming Solstice of Heroes event.
