It’s another weekend of Trials of Osiris and although Destiny 2 players may be excited to see one of the new/returning maps available, there are still complaints. Specifically, players think that Bungie should make a key change to the map Cauldron in order to make it fairer during Trials of Osiris.

Cauldron is another returning map from Destiny 1 and a regular option during Trials of Osiris in the first game. It, along with Exodus Blue and Anomaly, were revamped for Season of the Worthy and the return of Trials but by and large the makeup of the maps has been relatively the same.

One detail that many Destiny 2 players feel that should have been changed on Cauldron, though, are the doors that lead to the central area of the map. Because the doors take a second or two to open, there is less of an opportunity to push on an opponent. On top of that, the closed doors encourage less direct engagements, which leads to a lot of waiting around until the capture point appears.

Cauldron is by no means a terrible map for the Trials of Osiris mode, but the closing doors seem to be a major sticking point for some PvP fans. If Bungie could either prevent the doors from closing or just remove them altogether then the flow would feel a little better. As it stands now, the team that spawns on the South portion of the map can run quickly into the center area and camp, and the other team can’t engage without first giving the doors a second to open.

These little gripes with Trials of Osiris each weekend have been building towards a general disinterest in the returning PvP mode. A year ago, Crucible fans were constantly asking Bungie to bring back Trials, but the developer said that it wanted to ensure that it got everything right before Trials returned.

However, while there are a few elements of Trials of Osiris that are new or have been tweaked – like the Trials passage options – the mode feels a lot like it did in Destiny 1. And with a lot of the same maps now available in Destiny 2, there are a lot of the same criticisms, alongside new problems.

Once Bungie does get the disappointing Trials rewards situation and the bugs worked out, then maybe the studio can find ways to improve its map options. But right now, it seems like every week there is a new complaint about Trials.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
