With the Destiny 2 Warmind DLC just over a week away, players are preparing for the new content drop in different ways. Some are reading over the new Crucible ranking system, some are looking at how Exotic weapons will become Masterworks, and others are trying to speculate about the Spire of Stars Raid Lair.

But there are some who may wonder if their preparation involving gameplay may be for naught. Specifically, there are likely some wondering if Destiny 2 will wipe any token inventory before Season 3 starts with the release of Warmind.

We are happy to report that Bungie says it will not be removing any tokens from players’ inventories prior to the launch of Warmind on May 8th. So all of those Iron Banner, Faction Rally, and Raid tokens that players have been holding onto will still be there in a week’s time.

Destiny Community Manager dmg04 responded to a post on Reddit, confirming that tokens should not be reset. We say “should” because some of the tokens he didn’t have a definitive answer on, but he did say that Iron Banner, Planetary Tokens (and Planetary Materials), and Raid Tokens will not reset. His response is below:

"Question has been asked, waiting on some answers. I'll update this reply as I get some info."

  • Jerpie got back to me, Iron Banner Tokens will not be reset.
  • Planetary Tokens/Materials will not be reset
  • Faction Rallies tokens should not be reset (I am waiting on an answer here)
  • Vanguard and Crucible tokens should not be reset (Waiting for full confirmation)
  • Raid Tokens will not be reset

While plenty of players spend their Destiny 2 tokens as soon as they get enough for a package/engram, others have held onto them in the hopes of something better. Perhaps they earned all the Iron Banner gear they wanted and are hoping for new items in Season 3. Or maybe Benedict’s inventory will expand with the launch of Spire of Stars and they want to try and collect some new raid gear. Whatever the case may be, there is a reason to hold onto tokens, but there is always a risk.

Before certain events returned, most notably the third Faction Rally of Destiny 2, Bungie wiped all of the players' Faction tokens. Granted, those players likely stocked up by using the token farming method but still, it was disappointing to see tokens disappear.

Now, thankfully, any tokens earned between now and the launch of Warmind will be ready and waiting to be spent on new gear. Whether or not that gear will be worth holding onto those tokens, however, is another issue entirely.
