It’s the final week of Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost event and as promised, Bungie has kicked off a murder mystery. Master Ives is dead and it is up to the players’ Guardians to solve the case and claim a reward when all is said and done.

Step 1: Acquire Lost Cryptarch Quest from Holliday

To acquire the Lost Cryptarch quest, players need to visit Amanda Holliday in the Tower. She will give them Master Ives’ Journal, which is missing some pages that players need to find.

Step 2: Find 10 Journal Pages

In order to acquire the 10 pages for Master Ives Journal, players can do one of two things. Either they can decrypt legendary and exotic engrams or defeat challenging enemies in the European Dead Zone. For those looking for the fastest route, head over to Master Rahool and buy 10 of his legendary engrams in exchange for legendary shards.

However, if Destiny 2 players want to save their shards and still complete this quest step fast, they can look for a Glimmer Extraction Public Event on the EDZ. This Public Event, when turned Heroic, has a ton of challenging enemies (the ones with yellow and orange health) and should complete the quest in one go.

Step 3: Decrypt Journal Pages (Timegated)

Unfortunately, once players collect all of the pages for Master Ives’ journal they need to wait. According to the Quest log, the pages are encrypted and Amanda needs to consult her “network of associates” in order to make more progress. Basically, this means players need to wait before they can continue the quest. [UPDATE: One week later, the quest continues!]

Step 4: Complete 3 Lost Sectors

Next, players will need to complete three Lost Sectors near Devrim Kay in the European Dead Zone. They are Atrium, Terminus East, and Widow's Walk.

Step 5: Complete the Whispered Falls EDZ Lost Sector

Self-explanatory step. This week was all about 4 lost sectors and now players are waiting once again.

Step 6: Complete a Quest on the EDZ

As rumored, there is a quest that sends players back to the Cosmodrome. Unfortunately, it's very short. Once complete players will claim Ives' last engram.

Step 7: Decrypt the Engram into Thunderlord

The engram becomes Thunderlord, a returning Destiny 1 exotic for Destiny 2. This is the first heavy machine gun added to the sequel but it will not be the only one.

While Destiny 2 fans had hoped that the Festival of the Lost murder mystery would lead to a special reward today, Bungie did drop hints that might not be the case. As part of last week’s blog post, Bungie revealed that the quest would be a source for powerful rewards over the course of weeks, meaning this murder mystery should take a while to complete.

That being said, it is now more likely that the rumors about the quest unlocking the Thunderlord exotic heavy machine gun are true. Presumably, this quest will go on until right before the launch of the Black Armory DLC, which adds the heavy machine gun class back into Destiny 2. Time-gated quests are never popular with the Destiny fan base but it does give them something to do between now and the new content. So now we wait.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
