Destiny 2 developer has cleared up the ambiguity with Three of Coins in the game, and has also identified one particular activity in Destiny 2 not working with the item that is designed to give players a higher chance at exotics.

After fans complained that Three of Coins appeared to be doing virtually nothing over the weekend, Bungie has come back with some answers. One complaint was that the Three of Coins item itself is very non-specific as to what exactly it does. Sure, it's meant to increase the chance of exotics drops, but the in-game descriptions offers very little hint as to how it is doing that.

Bungie clarified today, saying that Three of Coins gives a 50% increase to exotic drops upon completing an activity:

When players use a Three of Coins consumable, this provides a 50% increase to the base chance of being rewarded an Exotic Engram upon activity completion. Using this consumable does not guarantee an Exotic reward upon completing a set number of activities – but rather increased chances upon each activity completion.

That is, except for the new Heroic Strike playlist. Due to a bug, Heroic Strikes are not functioning with Three of Coins. So for players who are using Three of Coins, it would be a good idea to play other activities during the four hours that Three of Coins is active. According to Bungie, a fix to the Heroic Strikes playlist will come to Destiny 2 in early 2018.

This past weekend marked the first time Three of Coins was available, just newly added to Xur's inventory along with Fated Engrams in Update 1.1.1. Both of those items are designed to give players a better chance at obtaining the game's exotic weapons and armor.

But it appears that despite players thinking otherwise, Three of Coins is functioning as intended except for within the Heroic Strike playlist. That leaves the choice up to players to decide if a 50% increased chance of exotic drops is worth the price of 31 Legendary Shards.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
