This week, Bungie launched Season 6 of Destiny 2, which is titled Season of the Drifter. As part of the new season, players will experience new content via the Joker’s Wild add-on including two new modes called Gambit Prime and Reckoning. But perhaps the element of Joker’s Wild that has most players excited is the return of Thorn.

While the Thorn quest won’t go live in Destiny 2 until March 12th, the steps to reclaiming the exotic hand cannon are already in the game’s files. So those who are curious can see what it will take in order to unlock Thorn.

There are 7 steps in the Thorn quest and they are fairly straightforward. And unlike The Last Word quest, which required completing multiple sub-steps within each quest step, the Thorn quest offers players options.

Step 1: Find a Broken Thorn

Head to the Salt Mines area in the EDZ, sift through the ashes, and claim the Melted Hunk of Metal. Take it to Banshee-44, the Gunsmith, in the Tower.

Step 2: Gather Hadronic Essence

The Gunsmith wants to use Hadronic Essence to power up Thorn. To obtain the material, players will need to complete one of three objectives:

  • Kill Warlocks in the Crucible
  • Complete IO Destination Bounties
  • Complete Nightfall Strikes

According to this quest step, the fastest way to gain Hadronic Essence is by completing Nightfall Strikes.

Step 3: Gather Plasteel Plating

Like the step before it, players will have the option of completing one of three objectives, only this time to claim Plasteel Plating for Thorn. They are:

  • Complete Titan Destination Bounties
  • Kill Titans in the Crucible
  • Complete Blind Well Activities

Heroic Blind Well offers the most Plasteel Plating on this Destiny 2 quest step.

Step 4: Sapphire Wire

And finally, players need Sapphire Wire, which can be obtained via:

Escalation Protocol waves are the fastest way to claim Sapphire Wire.

Step 5: Void Kills

This step should be familiar to those Destiny players who unlocked Thorn in the first game, but thankfully it is a lot more forgiving. The goal is to get Void or Hand cannon kills in the Crucible, or players can get the most progress by using Void Hand Cannons for kills.

Luckily, the quest step doesn’t say anything about losing progress but that could change when it goes live. Also, it’s worth noting that Iron Banner or Competitive Crucible grant extra progress, so depending on how slow this quest step is, or the player’s skill level, it might be worth waiting for IB to come around.

Step 6: The Farm

Head to The Farm and visit Tyra Karn. Apparently, it is a better idea to ask Tyra in The Farm since the area is off the beaten path.

Step 7: Savathun’s Song

A new mission will appear that offers a unique version of the Savathun’s Song strike. At some point in the strike, players will face off against Sardav and Telesh, who are called the Arbiters. Killing them should “feed” Thorn and it should be fully powered.

Destiny 2’s Thorn Quest goes live March 12, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
