Destiny 2's new expansion The Witch Queen introduces a campaign with two different difficulty modes: Brave for those who want an easier campaign experience, and Legendary for those who want a real challenge and double the rewards.
When first loading up to Destiny 2, players will be given a choice between Brave and Legendary. However, this choice can be changed later, in case players find that the campaign is too easy for their taste or if the Legendary difficulty is too brutal.
How to Switch The Witch Queen Campaign Difficulty
The Witch Queen campaign missions can either be launched on the Destination map directly or by approaching a flag located somewhere in the world. This changes depending on each mission, so there's no real rule on where missions begin during the campaign.
To start a mission, the fireteam leader should approach the flag or click on the mission icon located on the map.
The mission won't start immediately. Whenever players launch a mission, they will first be brought to a screen that shows the fireteam members, the difficulty and light level at the bottom with a Launch button, and the modifiers that apply to that mission.
Click on the button directly above the Launch button that shows the currently selected difficulty and light level for the mission.
This will bring up the Select Mode screen. Here, players can choose which difficulty they want to experience for the mission in question. Each mission of The Witch Queen campaign can be played with either difficulty, so players can mix and match this as much as they want as they play through the campaign. For example, it's perfectly possible to play the first mission on Classic and then switch to Legendary for the next one.
Select the desired difficulty in this screen on the left, by either picking Legendary or Classic. The only thing to consider is that the Legendary campaign unlocks a Triumph when each mission is completed in Legendary difficulty, and it also gives players double reward chests at the end of an encounter.
Once players have changed to their desired difficulty, they will be brought back to the previous Launch button screen, where they can begin the mission. Note that players cannot change the difficulty while still inside a mission.
If players want to change the difficulty while mid-mission, they'll have to abandon the activity and launch it from the beginning with their desired difficulty.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
