Fans of Destiny 2 are no strangers to the game-breaking horror that is the Exotic fusion rifle, Telesto. This past week the gun once again reared its head, allowing players to exploit a glitch that essentially made Destiny teammates invulnerable to any damage that came their way.
Previously (in this season alone), players paired Telesto with the seasonal mod, Thermoclastic Blooming, which allowed them to create endless amounts of Orbs of Power, thus creating an unbalanced experience in every competitive activity the game offers. Telesto has been breaking the game or allowing for weird exploits since the days of the original Destiny, so people are now well aware of the gun's tendency to completely derail Bungie's operations.
Now, this new exploit has some players coming up with ideas to honor the gun's notorious history. One player took to Reddit to share their idea for a Telesto ornament (cosmetic skins available for Destiny 2's exotic weapons) that would keep a tally of the days since the gun's last game-breaking bug. In their idea, the counter would be displayed as a small number viewable when aiming down the sights.

Bungie is no stranger to including special details on their weapons that provide function and fun-factor to the experience of using them. For example, in Season of the Hunt, the precision frame sub-machine gun Friction Fire came equipped with a sight that had a noise detector subtly placed in the reticle. Also, One Thousand Voices received an ornament commemorating one especially annoying bug that made a loud screeching noise when players tried to fire it while in the air. If Bungie were to make an ornament like the one mentioned, it would not be the first time that it made an in-game reference to the game's most infamous bugs.
Whether Bungie implements such a design for the Telesto in the future is unclear, but there is no denying the gun's lasting legacy in the game, and it has become cemented in players' and developers' minds as one of the most problematic weapons in Destiny 2. What is almost always at the center of the weapon's problem is the game's logic counting the fired bolts of Telesto as enemies. This is what caused the Thermoclasting Blooming issue, and an earlier cheese where players could skip the entirety of the Blind Well public event. It is unclear, though, as to why the problem continues to persist, even after so many changes have been made to the gun and the game itself.
The gun's many problems have caused some to raise the question of whether it should stay in the game at all, but removing it would probably cause more trouble than it would solve. Guns in Destiny 2, especially Exotic ones, are incredibly important to the playerbase, and an Exotic has never been completely removed from relevant content in Destiny 2 history. Aside from that, the existence of ornaments for the gun (cosmetics that some paid money for) exacerbates the issue of removing weapons and skins that players paid for with the expectation of keeping forever.
