There is a community of veteran players within the Destiny 2 playerbase that adore speedrunning and finding ways to skip sections of activities. Thanks to a recent find, they may be able to continue speedrunning via "sword flying."

The technique that's called "sword flying" or "sword skating" is when players launch themselves horizontally to great distances at high speed in Destiny 2. This requires precise timing of certain inputs and allows players to skip long treks or sometimes encounters altogether.

The return of sword flying is celebrated because before Season of the Worthy had dropped, Bungie revealed the upcoming overhaul to swords. This included how the heavy/special attack would be retooled to severely impact sword flying.

This had killed the morale of the speedrunning community, but as Reddit user Sadvimi's post points out, all hope may not be lost. There still is way to sword fly in Season of Arrivals, using the exotic sword Worldline Zero and its Tesseract ability, which teleports the player forward.

The unfortunate news is that this method requires a Raid Banner to be executed. The best way to learn it is through practice, but, in essence, players need to start placing a banner while the Tesseract buff is up, then activate Tesseract before the animation finishes and follow it up with a glide and dash.

As glide and dash are only present on Warlocks, no other class can use this specific method. However, one user reported that it works with the new Falling Guillotine sword too which should free up the exotic slot of those who will attempt this trick. Plus, Falling Guillotine is the best DPS weapon at the moment which is a big boon for this type of sword flying.

At the end of the day, speedrunning won't return to its glory days with the advent of this technique but it does present another challenge for fans to master. As Raid Banners are becoming more common in non-raid activities, this sword flying trick might see new uses in the future.

Besides speedrunning, sword tricks had allowed players to get out of bounds and explore/traverse spaces that normally cannot be reached. Even if this new technique doesn't facilitate glitching out of the map in most cases, sparrow flying still exists and is used by glitchers to this day.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
