Currently in Destiny 2, it can be pretty difficult to take down an opposing player using a roaming super. But in a small glimpse into one of the balance changes Bungie is looking to make this fall with the release of the Shadowkeep expansion, roaming supers are likely getting nerfed.

Specifically, Bungie acknowledges that roaming supers in the Crucible are often dominant and don't give other players a chance to fight back or counter them. That should change, according to Destiny 2 director Luke Smith, who said the issue is obvious in the current state of the game.

Smith actually called attention to it in conjunction with talking about a nerf for Lord of Wolves that is coming soon, saying that the "silver lining" of Lord of Wolves currently being overpowered in the Crucible, is that those damage-resistant supers are getting taken down really easily. And that seems to have moved those supers' damage resistance capabilities up the list of upcoming sandbox changes for the fall, with Smith saying, "We're looking at this fall too...the team is upstairs looking at how to adjust damage resistance for supers."

The roaming supers in the game are Stormtrance, Nova Warp, Arc Staff, Golden Gun, Sentinel Shield, Fist of Havoc, Dawnblade, Sunbreaker, and Spectral Blades. Spectral Blades and Nova Warp have already been targeted with nerfs and the damage resistance of the Hunter's Golden Gun is pretty low already, so those are probably unlikely to be nerfed in Shadowkeep. However, players will need to wait for more details to know exactly which roaming supers will be affected.

Players have long complained about the roaming supers in Destiny 2 because as opposed to Destiny 1 where there were multiple ways of shutting down supers such as high-impact Special weapons like snipers and shotguns, even most sniper rifles in Destiny 2 cannot take down a roaming super in a single headshot. It looks like those complaints have been heard, and while details are slim, players can be hopeful that roaming supers will not be quite as strong in the near future.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases on September 17, 2019 for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
