In Destiny 2's Warmind expansion, developer Bungie introduced a new pursuit that came to be known as a pinnacle weapon. A pinnacle weapon is a powerful Legendary weapon that is earned through a considerable commitment to a particular playlist. These weapons are almost a half-step between a Legendary and Exotic, featuring a unique and powerful perk.

In Season 4, Luna's Howl is the pinnacle weapon for the Competitive Crucible playlist along with a stronger version called Not Forgotten. But in Season 5, there will be three new pinnacle weapons including—for the first time—one for Strike activities and another centered around Gambit.

In Bungie's weekly blog, the developer detailed the three new pinnacle weapons coming in Destiny 2's Season 5, the Season of the Forge. Where there was once Luna's Howl, Not Forgotten, and Redrix's Broadsword, now dedicated players of the Crucible will be able to earn The Mountaintop, a Kinetic Lightweight Grenade Launcher. For Strikes, the new pinnacle weapon coming in Season 5 is the Loaded Question fusion rifle.

Its unique perk is Reservoir Burst: "When the battery is full, your next burst deals additional damage and causes enemies to explode on death.” While there will still be a grind to complete in the quest for this weapon, it looks a bit more doable than the quest for The Mountaintop:

  • 500 Fusion Rifle kills (in any strike or Nightfall)
  • 1000 Arc kills (in any strike or Nightfall)
  • 40 strike or Nightfall completions

As mentioned, Gambit is also getting a pinnacle weapon called Breakneck, a Kinetic Precision Auto Rifle with the unique perk Onslaught, which increases the weapon's rate of fire with every stack of Rampage.

Rampage is already a top-tier perk in Destiny 2, and the perk that sounds reminiscent of SUROS Regime's Spinning Up perk could end up making this a great weapon to have. Like the quest for the Vanguard's Loaded Question, the quest for Breakneck will be a bit of a grind but looks fairly simple to complete:

  • 500 Auto Rifle kills
  • 100 Auto Rifle multikills
  • 150 challenging enemies defeated
  • 40 Gambit matches completed

As a reminder, the quests for the game's current pinnacle weapons—Luna's Howl, Not Forgotten, and Redrix's Broadsword—will not go away with the end of Season 4; however, any progress that has to do with Valor or Glory rank will reset in Season 5. Other progress in the quests, like kills, will not reset.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
