In early December, Bungie introduced a new dungeon named Grasp of Avarice to Destiny 2. Grasp of Avarice is part of Bungie's 30th Anniversary celebration and isn't quite like other dungeons as a result. It has mysterious mechanics, lots of surprising traps, and even an extended sequence requiring Destiny 2 players to ride their sparrows. Funnily enough, this sparrow section of Grasp of Avarice can be challenging in its own right, as one Destiny 2 player's video clip makes clear.
Reddit user Rambunctiouskid- shared a clip of their personal experience from a recent run of the Grasp of Avarice dungeon. The clip shows Rambunctiouskid- riding his sparrow through the sparrow section of the dungeon only to have an issue. Rambunctiouskid- hits a jump the wrong way, causing them to land awkwardly and flip their sparrow. When they try to re-summon their sparrow to reach the next point, they instead do a flip mid-air and crash, ending the Grasp of Avarice run.
The title of the video shared on Reddit is "I hate sparrow physics I hate sparrow physics I hate sparrow physics," and it's easy to see why. Rambunctiouskid- gets hit twice by their sparrow's physics going a bit wonky. First, when they're landing and one of the "teeth" in the skull-shaped rock formation catches the back end of the sparrow and causes it to flip. The second is due to Rambunctiouskid- summoning their sparrow mid-air and pressing the gas. This immediately causes the sparrow to spin forward, crashing and exploding.
To be fair to Bungie, these physics quirks with Destiny 2 sparrows have been around for a very long time. Rambunctiouskid- is likely deeply familiar with these physics quirks. It was only when put into a position of panic where they reacted with muscle memory rather than recalling what would likely happen summoning a sparrow mid-air.
For the most part, commenters on Rambunctiouskid-'s Reddit thread are chastising him for not remembering how sparrow physics works. Other commenters tell Rambunctiouskid- that they should have used the jump on the left, which goes through the skull rock formation's eye and grants a time extension. Most all Destiny 2 players, at least, is laughing with Rambunctiouskid-.
At the very least, Rambunctiouskid-'s Reddit post will help some Destiny 2 players better navigate the Grasp of Avarice sparrow run. By no means do players expect Bungie to change the sparrow physics for Destiny 2. That's not what the post is really about. It's just Destiny 2 players having fun with the eccentricities of Destiny 2.
