The annual Solstice of Heroes event finally returned to Destiny 2 earlier this week. As it has done each year, Solstice of Heroes celebrates the past year and features a ton of new cosmetics and the limited time activity in the European Aerial Zone. The biggest piece to this event, however, is the special armor players can unlock which also features a cool visual effect that gives the look that the armor is glowing.

This year, Bungie made a few tweaks to the event, as past criticisms typically centered around the cool looking armor basically being rendered useless not too long after the event ends. For this year, the special armor glow effect was turned into a Universal Ornament, meaning that players could apply the look and glow of the armor on any piece of legendary Destiny 2 gear including future armor introduced down the road in expansions like Beyond Light.

While that solves the question of the armor being rendered useless, fans have started to express their disappointment over how lackluster the actual armor glow looks after it is applied. One fan put together a substantial post on the Destiny 2 subReddit with detailed descriptions of the armor issues, even going as far as posting screenshots and videos comparing the visual style to past years versions.

The main issue revolves around how dull the glow appears, which contradicts the marketing content Bungie put out prior to the event. In the images and videos, the armor appeared to glow brighter and more vivid. Even being fully charged with super energy doesn't appear to make any difference to the colors.

While many fans are hoping this is some sort of visual bug that can be fixed, other issues regarding the event have started to crop up as well. Earlier in the week, players discovered what was thought to be a glitch that allowed second and third armor sets to be leveled faster. While Bungie confirmed that this was intended functionality, some players have reported that the added multipliers don't always work as Bungie detailed. After getting to the Magnificent armor rank, a second character should get a double modifier buff and then the third should get triple that. Some players aren't getting the triple progression buff while others have reported that if you don't level the Titan class last, it'll break the multiplier entirely.

While that's no doubt disappointing and a bit frustrating, other issues have been reported by players including Gambit Prime not dropping any elemental orbs at all. A UI issue for Warlock armor is seemingly back exactly as it was during last year's event, incorrectly tasking players with getting 150 super kills against other players. Some players are also missing the step to talk to quest giver Eva Levante after hitting the Magnificent tier, preventing them from unlocking Solstice armor from randomly dropping in game.

Considering that the event runs for an entire month, Bungie still has time to correct some of these issues. No doubt, the remote development forced upon the studio by the pandemic outbreak has been an issue for the developers trying to navigate these turbulent times. The tough situation has even caused a significant delay to the highly anticipated Beyond Light expansion, pushing the new Destiny 2 content into direct competition with some major games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
