Destiny 2's major summer event, Solstice of Heroes, returns on August 11. It's free for all players and brings brand new armor, challenges, collectibles, and a returning activity.

Solstice of Heroes acts as the end-of-year event for Destiny 2 as it is presented as a celebration of the past year in the game. Things are a bit different this time around as the launch of Beyond Light (a.k.a. year 4) was postponed significantly, making the Festival of the Lost the event that will close off the current year.

Eva Levante returns to her usual place in the Tower courtyard next to the Statue of Heroes, acting as the event's vendor. Players will complete bounties and quests with her to progress through the event, unlock triumphs, etc.

The main attraction is the European Aerial Zone (EAZ) again. It's a three-person matchmade activity where players hunt down Hive, Cabal, or Fallen bosses. After the combat phase, chests will spawn at randomly selected points across the map based on the number of bosses defeated.

The fireteam has a limited time to go treasure hunting in the European Aerial Zone before the activity concludes. This section of the activity doesn't have a failure state but the more chests the fireteam opens in total, the better the rewards.

As was datamined by avid fans, the event brings brand new armor, one that is not based off of the old Vanguard armor sets. Once again, players will need to upgrade a broken down armor set to acquire the new "Majestic" level gear.

This will be done through elemental kills matching the day's featured element (Arc, Void or Solar). Unlike previous years' events, the armor will automatically begin to glow upon reaching the highest tier, but it won't match the subclass colors.

Players will also be able to purchase universal ornaments from the Eververse store that look and glow like the Solstice armor. Difference is, this armor's glow color matches the currently equipped subclass. The good news is that there isn't a different glow for each element but only one that changes color based on subclass, and intensity based on super energy.

There are of course Solstice themed sparrows, ships, emotes and more available from the store as well. Additional rewards will be earned through the Solstice Packages unlocked with solstice Key Fragments. These will contain powerful gear and mods.

The last triumphs under Moments of Triumph 2020 will also become available during the event. Players who finish the quest "The Solstice Begins" will be given a code under Bungie Rewards to unlock a Solstice of Heroes music track.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
