So far in Destiny 2, the Bungie Sandbox Team has held the philosophy that nerfs should not be the first plan of action to balance the game. However, with the introduction of the Gambit game mode, one exotic has reigned supreme: Sleeper Simulant. It seems that fan frustration has made its way to Bungie, as they are looking into a nerf for Sleeper Simulant in Gambit to make it less powerful in the PvEvP game mode.

This Destiny 2 exotic linear fusion rifle is extremely powerful in Gambit for several reasons. One reason is it can reliably one-shot an enemy invader while the invader is using their super. This makes it a great tool for both invading and dispatching the invaders. It also excels when players invade the enemy team because it has insane range and can shoot other guardians from across the map. Most players in Gambit right now will see Sleeper Simulant all over the place.

This prompted Bungie to send out a tweet today letting fans know that it is looking to adjust Sleeper Simulant to make sure it isn’t the most powerful weapon in Gambit. It is currently not known what this change will entail, or if it will affect other game modes outside of Gambit. Sleeper Simulant was a popular weapon among the few teams that beat the Last Wish raid on day one. Sleeper Simulant and Whisper of the Worm were two of the most-used heavy weapons during the raid.

Forsaken owners have been enjoying Gambit since the launch of the DLC, and it is a great fit for both PvP and PvE players. Many fans speculate that there is an exotic tied to Gambit somehow, as no one has found the Malfeasance Hand Cannon yet. One of the perks on the weapon deals more damage to Gambit invaders, and the lore tab is actually written by The Drifter, so fans have been tearing Gambit apart looking for this weapon.

All in all, the nerf to Sleeper Simulant may upset some fans, but it is something many fans have called for since the trial run of Gambit before Forsaken released. Hopefully Bungie will make a change that will still leave the weapon in a good spot both in Gambit and in other activities.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
