Bungie is celebrating its annual July 7 holiday, the self-branded Bungie Day, by sharing details about upcoming Destiny 2 content. Today's big announcement was about Destiny 2's Year 2 Moments of Triumph, which will become available to Guardians on July 9. In addition to the Moments of Triumph, Bungie also chose to share a variety of wallpaper-quality screenshots including several from its upcoming Shadowkeep expansion.

Five of the nine wallpaper screenshots that Bungie released are from the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion, teasing the Shadowkeep fortress itself and its surrounding Moon environments. Each image is rich in detail, offering just a glimpse at the areas Destiny 2 players will be able to explore starting September 17. None of the images feature any spoilers beyond the Shadowkeep itself, which has already been shown in advertising.

The Moon itself is a familiar location for Guardians who have been playing since the original Destiny. The Moon once served as an outpost for humanity as it spread colonies across the galaxy. Since the Collapse, the Moon has become a nest of the Hive. The Hive hollowed out the Moon's mantle to make its home, which is why the Moon's surface is covered in cracks and fissures leaking green fumes and mist.

The events of Ghaul's invasion in Destiny 2, followed by the return of the Drifter, have led to a reduced Guardian presence on the moon. According to a piece of lore, the warlock Aunor II believes that Guardians flocking to participate in Gambit is causing Crota's Hellmouth fortress under the Moon's surface to stir once more. How that ties into the Shadowkeep expansion and what exactly the Shadowkeep is yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, Guardians can now see the Shadowkeep itself and speculate.

Bungie has made each of the five screenshots taken of the Moon and Shadowkeep available in resolutions up to 4K for Bungie Day. Four other wallpapers are also available for download, including one piece of classic Destiny concept art and three images that Guardians may recognize. Those images can be found on the Destiny subreddit thread for Bungie Day, as well as other details that Bungie has shared about upcoming Destiny 2 content.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Shadowkeep expansion releases September 17 across all platforms.
