Shadowkeep, Destiny 2's next big expansion is less than a week away from release and players are asking when they can pre-load the expansion so they can jump into the game as soon as it releases on October 1st. Destiny 2: Shadowkeep preload is available on Steam already for PC players, as announced earlier this week. But today, developer Bungie detailed exactly when players on PS4 and Xbox One will also be able to pre-load Shadowkeep.

Console players can pre-load Destiny 2: Shadowkeep on Monday, September 30th. Bungie did not specify when exactly on September 30th that players will be able to start pre-loading Shadowkeep; however, the developer did promise that it would occur that day while Destiny 2 is down for a 24-hour maintenance period. Players should follow Bungie Help on Twitter for service updates, which will announce once pre-loading for consoles is available on the day of September 30.

Depending on when exactly it becomes available, players will have less than 24 hours to preload the expansion for when it launches at the weekly reset on October 1st at 10 a.m. PDT. Depending on each player's connection and how much of Destiny 2 they already have, it's possible that the download size could be insanely massive up to 165 GB, according to the PlayStation Store's information page for the expansion. The minimum download size, also according to the PlayStation Store, is listed at 68GB which is likely the size of the new content while the 165GB comprises the total size of Destiny 2 with the addition of Shadowkeep.

The download speeds on the PS4 are notoriously bad as compared to that of the Xbox One because the console requires a download of the game and then a copying process that can take just as long if not longer than the initial download before finally installing. But no matter what console players are on, they will surely want to begin downloading Shadowkeep as soon as it's available.

The start of a new expansion is usually a mad dash because of players who are trying to get through the new content and level up as quickly as possible in order to be ready for the new raid and try to claim the title of World First. It's unlikely to be any different with Shadowkeep with the Garden of Salvation raid launching on Saturday, October 5th, just a few days after the launch of Shadowkeep.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep launches October 1, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
