Before Destiny 2 came out, no one could have predicted the rage and criticism that the game's new consumable shader system received. It has been a constant point of frustration due to the fact that they have to be earned one by one, some of the best ones are locked behind the Eververse Store, and that they have to be dismantled one at a time. But it looks like with the game's major fall expansion, Forsaken, developer Bungie is taking a step to ease some of the frustrations about shaders.

In an interview with PC Gamer, project lead Scott Taylor said that shaders will be an item that players will be able to pull directly out of the Collections tab in their menus, a new feature coming in Destiny 2: Forsaken.

As shown in Bungie's reveal stream last week for Forsaken, the Collections tab will be a place where every piece of Legendary and Exotic gear, along with items like shaders, Ghosts, and Sparrows. In that stream, Bungie showed off how the Exotics collection will function much like the kiosk does now—in exchange for specific materials, any Exotic that a player has already earned can be pulled out and added back to their inventory.

Taylor confirmed that Legendaries and shaders will work in a similar way, although he did not go into detail about what kind of materials or how much Glimmer will be required to do so.

It sounds like good news, because it appears that once players earn a shader they can go directly to Collections and pull out as many as they want (as long as they have enough of the required consumables), which will circumvent a lot of the frustration that came from trying to track down highly desired shaders and having to rely on Eververse if the desired shader was only available through that vendor.

Also, about that long process to delete shaders, Bungie is fixing that too. Bulk shader deletion will come to the game in Update 2.0.0 alongside the launch of Forsaken. It's a small quality of life change on the list of things coming this fall, but in reality these changes could be huge for players.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
