The Story Continues

Destiny 2 Season of the Worthy
Destiny 2 Cabal

The first thing players will see when they boot up Destiny 2 after the update is the new plot-driven quests that pick up where the previous season left off. Following the Cabal's failure to use the Sundial to undo the Guardians' victory over the Red Legion, the final remnants of the Psion Flayers' forces have enacted a last-ditch effort to destroy the Traveler and fulfill Dominus Ghaul's mission. By setting their flagship The Almighty on a crash course to Earth, the Cabal's final effort risks decimating everything the Guardians of Light have fought to protect.

In order to stop their imminent destruction, the player will have to consult the Warmind Rasputin in order to find a way to prevent the upcoming disaster. Completing the introductory quest of this new chapter of Destiny 2's story will unlock access to the new Seraph Tower PvE events.

New PvE Events

The epicenter of Season of the Worthy's new PvE content is the addition of Seraph Tower events. Part of Rasputin's plan to stop the Almighty's impact with Earth, these Seraph Towers can be found and activated by Guardians to initiate the event. Once activated, players will have to construct the primary Seraph Tower using energy from nearby support towers while fending off incoming enemies. In return for successfully building the towers, Rasputin will reward players with rare and powerful loot.

Increased Power Levels and Difficulty

One of the most often-heard requests from veteran players of Destiny 2 is more endgame content for high-level Guardians. Season of the Worthy seeks to appease this by increasing the maximum power level players can achieve by 50 points, bringing maxed out power levels to a softcap of 1,000 and a hardcap of 1,010. In addition, Season of the Worthy adds a new Grandmaster difficulty to Nightfall strikes, giving the most seasoned players an all-new challenge to conquer.

New Legendary Weapons and Armor

Season of the Worthy adds a host of new exotic weapons and armor to Destiny 2. New weapons include the Battle Pass exclusive Tommy's Matchbook, the returning Fourth Horseman shotgun, which players can get as a reward from Exotic Quests, and possibly a rumored machine gun that can be seen in the gameplay trailer. Season pass holders can also snag the Seventh Seraph armor sets for their guardians, in addition to obtaining exotic Rasputin-themed gear through leveling up their battle pass. In addition, Trials of Osiris' return brings the opportunity to unlock exclusive Osiris gear by completing his trials.

Gameplay Tweaks

A new patch that comes with Season of the Worthy also brings several changes to the gameplay of Destiny 2, for better or for worse. On the bright side, upgrade modules can now be used to change the elemental affinity of different pieces of armor, allowing easier customization for players' gear. Seasonal Armor mod sockets can also now be used to equip mods that were released before or after the Seasonal Armor.

On the other hand, sniper rifles, a popular weapon against PvE bosses, have been nerfed severely, which has caused some outcry from the Destiny 2 community. Swords have been changed as well to utilize an energy bar separate from regular ammunition. Smaller changes have also been implemented to different weapons and character classes, but time will tell as to how much the sum of these changes will affect gameplay.

The Return of Trials of Osiris

Finally, Season of the Worthy sees one of the most popular Destiny challenges return with the second coming of the Trials of Osiris. As the only PvP mode that doesn't scale power levels, the Trials of Osiris are a test for only the best of the best players. Those who do manage to overcome the Trials, however, are rewarded with some of the best loot in the game.

In three returning maps from Destiny 1, two teams of three players face off in elimination matches. In order to win, a team must win nine matches in a row without losing once. In exchange for surviving the grueling ordeal, a winning team earns access to The Lighthouse, where Osiris will grant them game-changing exclusive loot.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
