Destiny 2's Season of the Seraph continues with engaging storytelling that builds upon the elements set up in previous lore and weekly missions. With Week 4 in full swing, shocking revelations were discovered not only for the current Season but for Destiny 2 lore overall, revealing truths some may have suspected about Clovis Bray, but did not receive confirmation until now. If the main story for Week 4's story has been completed, players have seen a shocking twist involving Clovis and his position as the Exo Frame.

Season of the Seraph is the final Season for Year 5 before the new story expansion, Lightfall, releases in February 2023. Thus far, Season of the Seraph has been one of the more popular Seasons of Destiny 2, breaking from the repetitive mold of activities the last few seasons have contained. That's not to say players don't repeat specific missions, such as the Heist Battleground missions. Still, the procession of storytelling involving these Heists and the additional quests for Exotics and lore have brought a breath of fresh air that was sorely needed.

Who is Clovis Bray I in Destiny 2?

Clovis Bray was a scientist that lived during the Golden Age, the founder of the research and technology company Clovis Bray, and the head of the Bray family. Anastasia and Elsie Bray, the Exo Stranger, are his granddaughters. During the Golden Age, Clovis traveled to Europa to investigate native lifeforms, as well as a paracausal power that was revealed to him by the K1 Anomaly - an artifact of extraterrestrial origin on the Moon. This power was the Darkness, which Clovis named Clarity.

Clarity promised Clovis the secret to immortality, something Clovis desperately wanted as he neared the end of his life. Discovering native life in the subsurface ocean and Clarity, which he further named Clarity Control for his studies, the scientist convinced Elsie to join him as she had fatal insomnia due to Clovis' genetic meddling. Clarity Control later instructed Clovis to build a Vex gate, which was accomplished by stealing Vex from the Ishtar Collective.

Clovis was also responsible for building Destiny 2's Exos - self-aware humanoids with human minds uploaded into their artificial bodies. At the beginning of his research, Clovis could not overcome the deadly crash of uploaded minds, which deteriorated. With the Vex gate complete, Clovis discovered a giant blue star system where the Vex had constructed statite megastructures around the star to prolong its life and harvest its energy for fusion. Further study of the Vex led to mixing their milk with Clarity, which solved the deadly crash of the Exos.

The Vex code in their minds caused problems that Clovis later corrected by humanizing the Exos. Further destruction of the code was accomplished when Elsie uploaded herself into an Exo, destroying the Vex code and build. With the corruption of the Vex still in his body, Clovis eventually uploaded himself into a giant Exo Head located in Deep Stone Crypt on Europa. After centuries of hibernation, he was awoken in the present with no awareness that time had passed. However, he retained his snarky, selfish personality, viewing his family as tools to further his legacy and his hatred of the Traveler, which he saw as useless in the grand scheme.

Who is Rasputin in Destiny 2?

In Destiny 2, Rasputin is a Warmind - artificial military intelligence designed for warfare built during the Golden Age, which stood watch over the Golden Age colonies. Coordinated by Rasputin, the Warsat network, which are military orbital satellites, protected humanity from threats of all kinds. At the end of the Golden Age, the Darkness found the Solar System, pushing into it with its fleet of Pyramid Ships.

Rasputin spotted the coming Darkness, which he termed IT, but his programming to protect humanity made Rasputin designed to survive any attack thrown at him. He determined that IT had intelligence and was capable of planetary destruction. When the Darkness breached the Solar System, Rasputin threw everything he had at it to no avail. Seeing the Darkness did not follow the laws of cause and effect, Rasputin was left with a choice for his long-term survival to attack again or face destruction now, to which he chose survival.

Throughout Destiny 2's Red War campaign and in the Warmind expansion, Rasputin was discovered to have survived the Collapse. Though he has hostilities with the Iron Lords and the Warlock Osiris, Ana Bray has done all she can to teach Rasputin and spare him the wrath of the Vanguard. Eventually, Rasputin decided to work with the Guardians but stated he would protect humanity on his terms.

During Season of the Seraph, the Hive God Xivu Arath has been working with the Witness and House Salvation to obtain Rasputin's subminds and use or destroy him for a larger purpose. The Season has seen Ana, Clovis Bray, the Guardians, and Osiris, hunting down Rasputin's remaining subminds to rebuild and use him to protect humanity again. To that end, Clovis Bray was transferred into the Exo Frame in the H.E.L.M. to coordinate the rescuing of the subminds and Rasputin's rebuilding.

What Happened to Clovis Bray During Week 4 of Season of the Seraph

During this week of Destiny 2's More Than a Weapon quest, Ana found an unconventional method to restore Rasputin by finding the Ghost of Lord Felwinter, Felspring, who was discovered to be a piece of Rasputin's code placed in an Exo. Lord Saladin allows this to occur at the Iron Temple, where Rasputin speaks to Ana and the Guardians. He reveals that Clovis has betrayed them, seeing himself as the savior of humanity and that he originally built Rasputin to destroy and replace the Traveler. Clovis, Rasputin explains, wanted to become a god.

Rasputin further details how all that Ana taught him about humanity, art, literature, music, and so forth shaped his view on humanity as an essential yet fragile species to protect, counter to Clovis' views. When Ana, Osiris, and the Destiny 2 players confront Clovis, he shows no remorse for his actions, still deeming himself humanity's savior. As a result, Ana deletes him from the Exo Frame. Though Clovis is deleted, his programming and mind have returned to the giant Exo Head in Creation, presumably angered at everyone who thwarted his plans.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
