Destiny 2 remains a massive undertaking, with a Seasonal content model that demands constant commitment on both the part of the developers and the players. Even though Bungie employees are currently working from home due to the constant threat of the coronavirus, work on the game never stops, and thus the 10th Season, known as the Season of the Worthy, has finally arrived.

With a lead up that involved donating tons of Polarized Fractaline to build a massive group project, Season of the Worthy has been the most hotly anticipated thing to happen in Destiny 2 for a very long time, mostly because of the new and returning features that it will bring. Some of these features are not viewed with joy and anticipation, however. With Patch 2.8.0 released, players now have access to the raw data for all the changes made to the game, both for better and for worse.

One of the biggest questions has been about what will be next for Destiny 2's story, the PVE portion of the game that most players flock to upon beginning the new season. While it was generally accepted thanks to some early released footage that Rasputin the Warmind was involved, no one new what role it would play, whether friend or enemy. It seems that the Guardians and Rasputin will actually be forming an uneasy alliance in Season of the Worthy, with the Cabal sending the gargantuan ship Almighty directly at the Last City. Only Rasputin has the power to stop it, but players will have to help by powering up Rasputin's Bunkers and Towers to fight off encroaching enemies and, eventually, stop the Almighty itself.

In terms of general game aspects that can affect both PVP and PVE, there has been a host of rebalancing actions across the board, in terms of Weapons, Classes, and Armor. The Weapons side of things in particular has seen some pretty hefty nerfs to several weapons. While many Exotics that languished in OP territory have finally been hit with the nerfbat to prepare for the upcoming Trials of Osiris, to the delight of PVP players, there has also been a sniper rifle nerf that is going to leave players fuming. While Bungie mostly cut the power of sniper rifles because they were almost exclusively the go to against many PVE bosses, fans of Destiny 2 are still very upset at the choice.

On a more positive note, two favorable changes have come to Destiny 2's Armor 2.0 system that will allow players much greater flexibility in their customization and less drop-based restriction. The first allows players to spend an Upgrade Module to change the energy type of an individual piece of armor, allowing players to match that armor with mods that match its energy type. This eliminates a restriction that previously had no workaround, and will give players access to much more of their arsenal in a meaningful way. The patch also allows Seasonal Armor to use not only mods from its own Season, but also the Seasons directly before and after its Season.

With all the rebalancing on minute and large scales, there is a lot for players to memorize before they jump in and try their hands at the new, re-vamped Trials of Osiris, among other things. Burnout with the constant Seasons has been a problem, and one that Bungie is trying to fix with the Destiny 2 director's cut, but it is a distinct possibility that many fans have left before this Season could even hit. Only time will tell if this Season can really pull the game's staying power together.
