Even after the release of Lightfall and Season of Defiance, Year 6 of Destiny 2 has only just begun. There are still three more Seasons between players and the climactic finale of the Light and Darkness Saga in The Final Shape, which is expected to release some time in Q1 2024 unless Bungie decides to delay it.

Season of the Deep is the twenty-first Season in Destiny 2, and it will run from May to August. With a new Season on the horizon, players may be wondering when Season of the Deep is coming out and what to expect in this new update.

When Does Season of the Deep Start?

Season of the Deep begins on May 23rd. To be more specific, Season of the Deep will be available to download and play at 10:00 AM PST/1:00 PM EST. According to Bungie, maintenance in preparation for Season of the Deep will begin at 7:00 AM PST/10:00 AM EST. Destiny 2 will go offline for maintenance at 8:15 AM PST/11:15 AM EST.

While maintenance will not conclude until 11:00 AM PST/2:00 PM EST, Destiny 2 players will still be able to play the new content once they have downloaded and installed the update. Of course, players should be prepared for potential launch day issues. Both Witch Queen and Lightfall had lengthy server queues the moment they went live, and it is certainly possible that this could happen with Season of the Deep as well. While Destiny 2 has been rather unstable lately, hopefully Season of the Deep will not make that worse.

What Is Being Added in Season of the Deep?

Unfortunately, details for what content is being added in Season of the Deep are minimal at best. For reasons currently unknown, Titan (one of Saturn's moons) has somehow returned after disappearing at the end of Season of Arrivals back in 2020. Deputy Commander Sloane, an old NPC from Year 1 of Destiny 2, seems to have survived the entire ordeal and is calling for help during the teaser trailer released on May 11th.

While there is little else in terms of information about the story of Season of the Deep, some hints were dropped in the quest for Winterbite that indicated something important is on Titan. In addition, an epilogue mission for the Lightfall campaign will be released that will shed some more light on the enigmatic Veil.

As far as seasonal activities go, no details have been given as to what players can expect. Bungie did, however, release a screenshot of what appears to be an old Golden Age facility underwater. While this has led to some speculation about a swimming mechanic being added to the game, Bungie has not confirmed this.

Aside from new weapons, armor, and cosmetics, a brand-new dungeon is being released this Friday at 10:00 AM PST/1:00 PM EST. Naturally, no other details have been given for this new dungeon as Bungie wants it to be a surprise for players to discover for themselves.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
