Destiny 2 has just dropped the second part of its Lightfall DLC campaign. Season of the Deep was originally revealed earlier in May.

Since its September 2017 release, first-person MMO Destiny 2 was well-received as an improvement over its predecessor, although not without some division regarding its recategorized weapons and some of its new content. It has also become a contender for the game with the longest-lasting support via downloadable content. This could likely be due to the main game's spread-out release schedule across multiple platforms (including the now-defunct Stadia), as a means to keep new and old players engaged with a constant stream of new weapons, story missions, and dungeons to explore.

The Season of the Deep launch trailer was released to the official Destiny 2 YouTube channel, showcasing a variety of features coming to the game via this new update. Picking up after the Season of Defiance campaign, the story, once again conveyed via weekly missions, centers on the Fireteam heading to the bottom of the methane sea on Titan in pursuit of a distress signal, only to reveal that the person who sent it was actually communicating on behalf of a vicious-looking sea creature. Various shots of gameplay are shown, highlighting several new underwater maps including one inside a submerged facility, new costumes, as well as a variety of Light-themed weapons such as longswords and even bows and arrows.

Most notably, this campaign will include Easter eggs from other franchises that have made their home on PlayStation consoles. Characters such as Kratos, Aloy, and Jin Sakai receive themed armor ornaments and even finishers that players can use, while others such as the recently revived Ratchet and Clank will get their own emotes for usage in online play. Other Easter eggs will be available through the Eververse service across all platforms. For good measure, even a new fishing minigame will be added, as shown off in the final shots of the trailer.

With more DLC content mapped out as far ahead as 2024, there is no telling when the hype train for Destiny 2 will pull to a stop. Seeing how the upcoming pack is named The Final Shape, perhaps the end is in sight. With some controversies affecting the DLC as recently as Season 18, maybe leaving the party a bit early could be just what Bungie needs to ensure Destiny 2 ends its run on a high note.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
