Season of the Deep is the second Season of Year 6 of Destiny 2. The twenty-first season of Destiny 2 serves to continue bridging the story between Lightfall and The Final Shape which is expected to come out sometime early 2024. While Season of the Deep adds a great deal of usual content like new seasonal activities and a new dungeon, Bungie threw in a few surprises for players as well.

One of the big surprises revealed at the end of the trailer for Season of the Deep is the ability to fish. For players looking to participate in a more relaxing activity in Destiny 2, here is how to fish.

How to Unlock Fishing

Unfortunately, players cannot fish right out of the gate. In order to unlock fishing, players must complete the first week of the "Into the Depths" quest along with the intro mission. After completing it, players will get a new quest called "Gone Fishin'". The first step of this quest involves talking to Hawthorne in the Tower.

From there, players must gather 20 Bait by completing playlist activities, the new Season of the Deep activities, patrols, public events, or by finding destination materials. Destination materials grant one Bait while patrol missions grant two. Heroic public events grants seven to eight Bait, which makes them the most efficient method for completing this step of the quest. After that, the quest will update and players will have to go to the Outskirts to start fishing.

How to Fish

At the Outskirts in the EDZ, there will be an area with a Fishing Pond. A glowing beam of light will appear over this spot if players are far away, making the Fishing Pond easier to find. This is the spot where players can fish, and there are currently three destinations where players can engage in this new activity. The first is the EDZ, the second is Nessus, and the third is Savathun's Throne World.

In order to fish, players must approach the water and use the button prompt to begin fishing (Square on the PlayStation 5). Once the bobber is in the water watch it closely, and press the same button to catch a fish when the bobber disappears under the water. If the fish is caught just as the bobber goes down, this will be considered a Perfect Catch. A Perfect Catch improves the chance of the fish caught being higher quality.

Upon catching a fish, one Bait from a player's inventory will be used. Players can still fish without Bait, but they are less likely to get a higher quality fish. There are 28 unique fish to catch in total. 10 of them are Legendary quality, 14 are Rare quality, and 4 are Uncommon quality. There is one Exotic fish as well, but it does not count toward the total.

The Fishing Pond does not stay around forever unfortunately, and does despawn if a public event begins in the same area. Fortunately, another one will appear within a few minutes of the public event ending.

Rewards For Fishing

For players wondering if there are any rewards for fishing in Destiny 2, there are indeed rewards, but they aren't particularly exciting In the new section of the H.E.L.M, there is a fish tank where caught fish can be stored. Each new type of fish placed in the tank will give players a reward, including some of the new seasonal weapons. Other than that, this is a good source for Glimmer and reputation.

In addition, when a player catches a fish for the first time they will see it swimming around in the fish tank at the H.E.L.M. As players catch more fish, they are able to unlock decorative items for the fish tank as well. In addition, catching fish is also required for the new seasonal title.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
