Destiny 2: Beyond Light's Season of the Chosen introduces 34 new weapons for Guardians to add to their arsenal. Alongside the introduction of these new weapons, Destiny 2: Beyond Light is also sunsetting weapons from Season 9 that have not been reintroduced, for a total of 21 weapons being sunset. Point of the Stag will sunset at the end of Season of the Chosen.

Looking at the number of sunset weapons vs the number of new weapons in Destiny 2, Guardians may conclude that they are getting more new weapons than they are losing from sunsetting. Meanwhile, Guardians are noticing that while they are getting more weapons, most of these new weapons are in the Energy slot. This means that many of the new weapons from Season of the Chosen cannot be used together, since they occupy the same slot.

Of the 34 new weapons being introduced, 2 are blue/Rare weapons and will be overlooked by many Guardians. There's also 1 new Exotic, leaving Guardians with 31 new Legendary weapons. If Guardians do not count the Adept versions of these new Legendary weapons, then there is a total of 25 new Legendary weapons to grind for. Breaking this down one more time shows the real problem, as only 4 of these new Legendary weapons are in the Kinetic slot, while there are 6 Power weapons, and 15 Energy weapons.

There is a greater number of Energy weapons, with few options for Kinetic weapons. This is disappointing to Guardians who want to use more of the new weapons together. This issue is further exposed by 3 of these 4 weapons only being available in either Trials of Osiris or Iron Banner, leaving only 1 Kinetic Legendary weapon, Extraordinary Rendition, available from the PVE activity, Battlegrounds.

The above breakdown has sparked some controversy over Season of the Chosen’s weapon options, leading Guardians to hope that future seasons will include more weapon slot diversity for new, incoming weapons. While there are a few, upcoming weapons not currently in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, such as the upcoming Exotic Kinetic scout rifle, Dead Man’s Tale, it is not enough to change the overall outline of new Kinetic vs new Energy weapons introduced in Season of the Chosen.

Guardians wanting to capitalize on the weapons Season of the Chosen has to offer may find The Palindrome Handcannon or the Retrofuturist Shotgun to be powerful additions to their arsenal. Even with Extraordinary Rendition being one of the few Kinetic Legendary weapons available from Season of the Chosen, many Guardians are finding it to be a worthy addition to their Kinetic slot options.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
