The recent release of Season 13 in Destiny 2, Season of the Chosen, seemed promising for players. Taking in player feedback from the previous season, Season of the Chosen updated progression systems, added new loot, and added a hub called the H.E.L.M. Even though the new season seemed to include a lot of player requests, that doesn't mean the latest Destiny 2 launch has gone smoothly.
Season of the Chosen's story picks up where Season of the Hunt left off, but with a shift in focus to fighting against Cabal occupations. Bungie is expanding the loot offering for the season after the lackluster reception by players during Season of the Hunt, even bringing back a few weapons from year one tuned to current standards. Two of the three newly added strikes are returning missions from Destiny 1 that have been touched up. The initial release went over well with players, but shortly after release, some big issues began.
In a Reddit thread, user BoEnArrow025 reached out to ask if other players were also crashing constantly in the game. The issue persisted in crashing player's games after a few minutes of play, especially when they tried to enter battlegrounds or the newly added areas. For one user, the problem was resolved on its own, but for others, it simply became worse the next day. Bungie did respond to the issue quickly, first announcing it was investigating issues causing Destiny 2 players' games to crash, and then announcing the issue had been found and a hotfix was being worked on.
Bungie released a Steam-only update that it claimed would fix the crashing issues for those players. Unfortunately, after this update, Steam players reported that they were unable to launch Destiny 2 at all. The issue is being investigated at the time of writing, but no further updates have been made available. This is obviously not how Bungie wanted to start the new season.
The crashing issues have definitely been a dark spot on the Season of the Chosen. While players seemed genuinely excited about the promises of the new season, many are unable to enjoy the new content because of how severe the crashing issue is for them. Luckily, it seems all of the issues will be patched in the coming days, and thanks to a new feature that allows players to complete previous weeks' challenges, players won't be missing out on any items or other challenge content.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
