Fans of Bungie’s free-to-play MMO shooter, Destiny 2 have been treated to a lot of information in the Bungie showcase stream. The future of the game as well as new partnerships were announced alongside today’s new season launch.

The Sony-owned developer has shed light on what players can expect from the new season titled the Season of Plunder. Some of this information was unfortunately spoiled ahead of time as Bungie suffered an information leak earlier in the week that turned out to be accurate. However, players now know the official details about the New Arc abilities, along with the usual wealth of new weapons and gear that are released each season. Players can get their hands on as well as some new pirate-themed activities that are currently being rolled out in-game.

Three new activities have been added to Destiny 2, Ketchcrash, Expedition, and, Pirate Hideouts. Each mode has Guardians taking on pirates in different battle modes. With Ketchcrash, players are thrown into ship-to-ship combat to stop pirate captain Eramis and her crew causing mayhem in a new 6-player matchmade offensive.

As the name suggests, Expedition is a three-player activity that has gamers searching for treasure maps, and digging for treasure, all the while defending against privateers looking to steal their loot. Rounding out Destiny 2’s tasks is Pirate Hideouts. These weekly missions will task players with infiltrating and plundering powerful relics hidden within powerful pirate lord hideouts. Players who have missed out on the Witch Queen expansion, or any other content thus far will be able to catch up as all previous DLC is going free across all platforms until the end of August.

These additions aren’t the only thing to happen to Destiny 2, as Bungie has announced a partnership with Epic Games. Players can now download the base game and all current expansions through the Epic Game Store and receive the 30th Anniversary Pack as a bonus for doing so. There are also crossovers coming as new Destiny skins will soon release in Fortnite and Fall Guys.

Alongside the news of today’s season launch, Bungie announced the next Destiny 2 expansion titled Lightfall which is scheduled to be released in February 2023. The latest add-on is set to feature new Strand abilities, new enemies, and a new neon-colored city set around the planet Neptune. More details will be teased by Bungie in the coming months as the countdown to the next step in Destiny continues.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
