In addition to the release of Lightfall, Season 20 of Destiny 2 began at the same time as well. While Lightfall focuses on the efforts to find the Veil on Neptune, Season of Defiance is all about the defense efforts on Earth. While the Witness is solely focused on the Traveler, the Shadow Legion lands on Earth and begins to capture civilians.
Just like with Season of the Risen and The Witch Queen, both storylines exist separately from one another. In spite of that, Destiny 2 players interested in wanting to know what happens next will want to complete the quest 'We Stand Unbroken'. Here is what to expect in the first week of the main story of Season of Defiance.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Complete Defiant Battlegrounds: EDZ
Before players can pick up this quest, they will first need to have completed the first mission of the Lightfall campaign. At the terminal across from Nimbus, players will get a message from Mara Sov that begins the intro quest that leads into 'We Stand Unbroken'. For this quest, players will go to the Farm in the EDZ and meet with Mara Sov. This quest culminates in the completion of the normal version of Defiant Battlegrounds: EDZ.
Go to the War Table at the H.E.L.M.
After completing the intro quest and claiming the Righteous Defense Seasonal Challenge, the next step will be to go the War Table for a debriefing with Mara Sov. She tells players that she will grant them her favor so that they can freely breach the Ascendant Plane and take the fight to the Shadow Legion.
At this point, Destiny 2 players will need to choose one of three Awoken Favor upgrades from the War Table upgrade menu. These upgrades allow for players to generate favor during Defiant Battleground playlist activities with certain kinds of kills. It is recommended to either go with the upgrade that generates favor from either special ammo kills or heavy ammo kills.
Complete a Defiant Battleground Playlist Activity and Collect Three Awoken Favors
With an upgrade selected, the quest will update and players will need to complete a single activity in the Defiant Battleground playlist. Unlike in previous seasons, players will not need seasonal currency like the Defiant Key to progress this quest. However, Destiny 2 players will have to generate and collect three Awoken Favors.
One important thing to know is that favors are not guaranteed with every kill. It takes numerous kills of the same type as the upgrade (or upgrades later on) selected. So if players chose the special ammo upgrade, they will need to get as many kills as possible with a special ammo weapon to generate the favors needed. By equipping the seasonal armor set, it will take fewer kills to generate Awoken Favors. This effect can stack up to four times, so having at least two or three seasonal armor pieces equipped when doing Defiant Battlegrounds is a good method for saving time when doing this quest.
The playlist version of Defiant Battlegrounds have a respawn restricted zone in the final encounter of the activity. In previous seasons, this was not something that occurred in matchmade content, so players should be careful and make sure to be ready to deal with Champions.
Speak with Mara on the Farm
The final step for Week 1 is to speak with Mara Sov on the farm. She is pleased with how the mission went, and names players as her Queensguard. This is where the quest ends for now, but there will more parts in the coming weeks of Season of Defiance.
