The new Season of the Splicer is coming to Destiny 2 this week, and it includes many exciting novelties, including the cool kinetic sidearm exotic, Cryosthesia 77K, and old content returning from Destiny. That's not all the upcoming Season of the Splicer is going to offer, and among the new additions there is a weekly activity called "Expunge," as well as an all-new matchmade Vex simulation activity for six players called "Override."

Despite the little Fallen babies shown in the trailer for Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer, whose cuteness made them Internet idols, they seem not to be the main focus of the season. However, a Fallen Kell by the name of Mithrax, one of the so-called "splicers" with the ability to commune with machines, is the key character for the Guardians to find answers from regarding the Vex plunging the world into darkness. New weapons are coming too, and so is the new seasonal armor set, alongside the reintroduction of Destiny weapons like Hung Jury, and also the return of the Vault of Glass as one of Destiny 2's new Raids.

Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer's New Override Activity

With all the new stuff coming, it's easy to miss important details about what is currently known on the seasonal activities, specifically Override. This is yet another activity that allows players to find a group comprising six Guardians in total via the in-game matchmaking system. Override is not merely new content for players to farm, but it is part of Season of the Splicer's narrative arc.

As a matter of fact, it seems that it is Mithrax who lets the Guardians in the Vex simulation realm so that they can steal codes to discover their secrets and, possibly, how to make the sun shine on Earth's Last City once more. Mithrax is seen using a strange device in the trailer for the Season of the Splicer, which allows him to open what looks like a portal of sorts, one that is not so different from those used by the Vex. It is possible that Mithrax's ability to communicate with the machines will help Guardians seeking answers to find them in otherwise undecipherable Vex data, which is obtained by successfully completing the new activity.

The purpose for players joining Override matches is to breach the Vex network, and the trailer makes it clear that Guardians are taking the fight to the Vex, showing the newly acquired powers of Stasis. What exactly breaching the network means is still not fully disclosed, but it seems to involve a mechanic similar to that of "charges" that have to be retrieved, carried over to some structure, and slammed into it. Whether this mechanic, which is widely used in Strikes, Raids, and many other activities, is going to be what allows Guardians to retrieve the secret data, collapse the simulation, or simply to progress in the activity, remains to be seen.

Destiny 2's Override mixes Tron vibes with the overall synthwave aesthetic for Season of the Splicer, and players are already calling for the newly introduced simulation maps to appear in the Crucible, or a new Vex Strike. If this proves to be the case for every run of Override and not just a trailer thing, then players are likely to find in this activity a great way to farm for gear and to increase their power level. Portals are involved as well, allowing players to jump in between simulations up to the fight against a big Vex boss. More details will come shortly, once the new season launches, but players can expect some fun to be had.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
