Bungie has revealed Season 14 for Destiny 2, called Season of the Splicer, featuring the return of fan favorite Fallen character Mithrax. Furthermore, veteran fans should be happy to hear that next season will once again revolve around a 6-player matchmade activity, called Override. In it, Mithrax will help Guardians open the way to the Vex network and crash the system from inside.

Season of the Chosen had a strong story and Bungie seems to be continuing that trend into Season 14 as well. The premise will likely delight many Destiny 2 lore enthusiasts as players will be working with Mithrax and his custom Vex technology to progress the story and complete activities/missions. This character was mentioned during Beyond Light but hadn't made an appearance during its campaign.

After getting their Splicer tech together, Guardians will help Mithrax open the way to the Vex network and jump inside the simulation in the Override activity. This is a 6-player co-op mission that will feature matchmaking and serve as the backbone of the season. It can also take place on multiple destinations, including Europa, the Moon, or the Tangled Shore. The former will be available at launch with the latter two opening on May 18 and May 25 respectively.

To uncover the secrets within Override, Guardians will commune with a modified Servitor stationed underneath the HELM. This new section of the social space will be accessible via the staircase to the left of the Umbral Decoder. Despite being the seasonal activity, Override will have a free trial for those who do not own the Season Pass. For those that do, the 6-player activity will also be accompanied by a weekly mission, Expunge. This will award Pinnacle level gear and will be a similar to Harbinger or Presage from earlier this year.

The seasonal rewards include the standard fare of armor sets from the Season Pass and Eververse, themed legendary weapons, 3 exotic leggings with one for each class, and the first new Stasis weapon since Salvation's Grip, which had launched with Beyond Light back in November. The new sidearm is called Cryosthesia 77k and has the ability to freeze enemies with its special attack. Interestingly enough, it will be situated in the Kinetic slot, considering that it fires Stasis.

As a bonus, Vault of Glass will launch on May 22, free for all players. It will return with all-time favorite weapons such as Fatebringer, but also feature subtle tweaks to its encounters to keep them fresh and on-par with current Raids.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
