Next week, Destiny 2 Annual Pass owners will unlock Black Armory, the first DLC add-on for Year 2. Although Bungie does not bill Black Armory as a traditional DLC, it does feature some familiar components, including a new raid.

Black Armory Raid Name

Up until now, Bungie has been relatively quiet about the new Destiny 2 raid, but this week the developer was surprisingly forthcoming with details, more so than they have been in the past. And in today’s Bungie weekly update, the developer confirmed both a name and recommended power level for the endgame encounter.

On December 7th, Destiny 2 players will head back to the Old City to face ‘Scourge of the Past,’ the new raid included with the Black Armory DLC. Throughout the ViDOC for Black Armory that was released on Tuesday, Bungie referred to this endgame activity as a raid and not a raid lair, and that was apparently for good reason. According to Bungie, the Scourge of the Past raid will not be an extension of any existing raid activity – raid lairs were still set on the Leviathan ship – and it will fall somewhere in the spectrum of Crota’s End and Last Wish, length-wise.

In that same ViDOC, the Bungie developers said the Black Armory raid would feature a breakneck pace and would allow players to use their sparrows for the first time. That alone was a fitting tease but comparisons were also drawn between this raid and the Wrath of the Machine raid from Destiny 1.

As far as the recommend power level for the Scourge of the Past raid, Bungie confirmed that it will be 640. That’s just ten points off the Season 5 power level cap of 650, so players should expect a challenge. If Last Wish is any indication, the raid is going to be challenging for players regardless of how much grinding they do between Black Armory’s release and next Friday.

The good news is that Black Armory will include new powerful reward sources for players, along with those introduced in Forsaken. But the soft cap will remain at 550, meaning any powerful drops will only be a small boost in power. Regardless of how much power players acquire between then, though, Bungie promises that all Annual Pass owners will be able to access Scourge of the Past.

Destiny 2: Black Armory releases December 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
