Destiny 2's next big expansion is a month away, and it's going to feature a long-standing enemy of mankind in Savathun - but this time with the powers of the Traveler's Light. The fact that Savathun is one of the Hive Gods and has been scheming against mankind for so long makes her a perfect villain, especially because she is considered the God of trickery and deception. Savathun even managed to pose as Osiris starting in Season of the Hunt, revealing her true self at the beginning of Season of the Lost when she was trapped in a crystal by Mara Sov.

Those who played through the first installment of the series know that the Hive has always been one of the most powerful and terrifying enemies of humanity. Guardians managed to defeat Oryx, and Destiny 2 seems to be focused on defeating his sisters Xivu Arath and Savathun. However, Savathun appears to be a very complex character, and it's likely her shifting allegiance with the Light will have some effect on her, possibly to the point that players won't have to consider her an enemy going forward.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen - Savathun Could be an Ally

Savathun and her Ghost from Destiny 2.

The entirety of Destiny 2's Year 4, which began with Season of the Hunt and the Beyond Light expansion, has been about showing how some characters or races can be redeemed in the eyes of the Guardians. This process began with Uldren Sov returning as the Lightbearer Crow, a very different person serving the Traveler who wishes to do better than Uldren. Uldren was responsible for creating the Scorn, and he and his band of Scorned Baron killed Cayde-6 during the Forsaken campaign.

Crow is now considered one of the best characters in Destiny 2, something players learned to appreciate about the Guardian throughout their adventures in Year 4. Crow does redeem Uldren Sov, though that took the help of Queen Mara's egotism and her quest for power and control, which became ever more apparent in Season of the Lost's seasonal narrative and lore tabs. Crow was not alone in becoming an ally of mankind after a troubled past, as the Cabal under the guidance of Empress Caiatl and the Eliksni of the House of Light under Mithrax followed suit.

Season of the Chosen and Season of the Splicer were both about making peace with those considered enemies since the dawn of time. Caiatl proved to be a leader of her word, and thus managed to get on good terms with Zavala to eventually help Queen Mara protect the Dreaming City from Xivu Arath's forces. The Eliksni already appeared less menacing in the tales of Variks from Beyond Light, but Season of the Splicer cemented this with Mithrax becoming an invaluable ally. His House of Light proves that not all who are perceived as evil may be such.

Seeing how this pattern unfolded throughout the same year that Savathun took over Osiris and experienced daily life in the Last City, it's not impossible that the Witch Queen will turn out to be an ally in the end. While the upcoming expansion seems to be focused on getting back the Light Savathun stole, the main character and Vanguard could end up seeing the good that Savathun and her Hive can do in a fight against the Darkness. Destiny 2 players expecting a full-on showdown against Savathun in The Witch Queen might be disappointed, as they could instead discover that she is going to be the next powerful ally of humanity.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
