With Destiny 2's Season 15 only a couple of days away, fans are excited to see the latest content being added in the update, as well as scrambling for any information regarding potential changes to the game. Bungie have already confirmed various changes to weapon and armor balance, as well as new ability changes and new exotics for Season of the Lost. On top of this, new leaks are suggesting that some extra content could be coming later in the year, with prominent Destiny 2 leaker, Wish, predicting the return of the exotic weapon Gjallarhorn.

Exotics in Destiny 2 are the linchpin of a player's build, offering powerful and unusual perks that can facilitate unique playstyles and synergize with subclass skills in interesting ways. Gjallahorn is an exotic rocket launcher, with its special perk, "Wolfpack Rounds," causing a cluster of smaller, tracking missiles to be produced when the initial rocket detonates. This perk inflicts massive damage, allowing the weapaon to clear out large packs of weaker enemies, as well as causing high single-target damage to high level enemies and bosses. This made the weapon a mainstay of the original Destiny, and caused it to be seen as one of the most overpowered exotics in the game.

The return of this powerhouse has been heralded by well-known Destiny leaker Wish, who simply tweeted "Destiny 2 content leak Gjallarhorn Dec 22nd," with the adendem "Or Christmas weekend***," posted in a secondary comment. Wish has recently posted a similar tweet with information regarding a Halo and Destiny 2 crossover event for Bungie's 30th anniversary, suggesting that major Halo-related content could be hitting the game soon. As with all leaks, Wish's tweet should be taken with a grain of salt, especially considering the lack of context or sources listed.

If Gjallarhorn is to make a come back, it will be interesting to see how it integrates into the current Destiny 2 exotics meta. In the original game, the weapon was so dominant during Year 1 of Destiny that it was considered one of the most overpowered weapons in the game's history. Many LFG (Looking for Group) posts during this time would have "Gjallarhorn Required" as note for joining players, with anyone without the weapon being kicked from the party. It's entirely possible that should the weapon return, Bungie will hit it with some nerfs, although considering that Destiny 2's sandbox is so different from its predecessor, it might be that the weapon will no longer be the dominant force it once was.

Wish's leak comes after the confirmation of Destiny 2's notepad and advertisment leaks, with Season 15's content officially revealed by Bungie, which certainly lends credence to tweet. Bungie also have a tendency to utilize original Destiny content for Seasonal updates, with some players complaining about the recycling of old exotics and quests, and others extolling the virtues of bringing back fan-favorites. While the opinions on the subject are polarized, Destiny 2 fans will likely be placated by the additional content in Season of the Lost, and the promise of a new trailer The Witch Queen expansion, coming in 2022.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
