Destiny 2 players have already uncovered many of the Easter eggs and secret references that developer Bungie has managed to hide in the game. The Randal the Vandal Easter egg has been a highlight, along with this social space 'mini-game'. But it seems that the list of Easter eggs in the game is neverending, as players have now found another one.

This latest Destiny 2 Easter egg can be found in Distant Shore, the new map introduced as part of the game's limited-time Crucible event, Iron Banner. Players say that the sphere firmly embedded in the map resembles a Poke Ball.

Bungie has used plenty of spheres as Destiny 2 decorative pieces, particularly on the planetoid, Nessus. It's also not uncommon to see defeated Servitors either, as their spherical bodies and giant, purple eyes make for good set-dressing. However, players argue that this particular sphere has an uncanny resemblance to the Pokemon item. The contrast of the red top, the white bottom and the button in the middle is surely no coincidence and Bungie's intention with this landscape's design seems pretty clear.

Destiny 2 Pokemon Easter egg Distant Shore

Naturally, the discovery of the Destiny 2 Poke Ball has led to plenty of jokes. Players want to know if Bungie is about to send them off on a quest to defeat Pokemon antagonists, Team Rocket (possibly a Team Rocket raid?) and planning out boss fights as though they are Pokemon battles. "Bungie used nerf, it's super effective!" is also a winner.

But the discovery is also likely to set Destiny 2 players off on a hunt for even more Easter eggs. As mentioned, fans have already uncovered some of the biggest references and teasers in the game. For example, the journal Easter egg in the social space seems to hint at future content and possibly even a dark turn for the game's lore. But clearly, the list of hidden secrets is far from over.

The fact that this Easter egg arrived in Distant Shore, too, also shows that Bungie hopes to introduce more Easter eggs with each new piece of Destiny 2 content. The developer is planning several significant content updates over the next few months, including the winter wonderland event, The Dawning, which adds ice hockey. These will provide Bungie with ample opportunity to introduce even more things for fans to find and so eagle-eyed Destiny 2 players should be on the lookout.

Destiny 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on October 24, 2017 for PC.
