The latest raid activity within the world of Destiny 2, Root of Nightmares, has been the focus of the community's attention since it went live, and has been beaten by over 100,000 players within the first 24 hours. Destiny 2's newest endgame activity is currently in contest mode, and was first beaten a mere 2 hours and 24 minutes after its release by players Roen, Osiris, Punz, Kai, SK, and Grangalf.

Root of Nightmares represents the raid activity that came with the recent Destiny 2: Lightfall expansion, though as is the case every year, the activity was released for the community to challenge a couple of weeks after the launch of the larger DLC. The new raid introduces a plethora of vibrant new sets of armor for Guardians to earn, as well as several new raid-exclusive weapons including the Conditional Finality exotic shotgun. Players worldwide have until 10:00am PST on March 12th, 2023 to complete the challenge while it's in contest mode, which would provide successful Guardians with the chance to unlock exclusive rewards from the Bungie store upon completion.

Many in the Destiny 2 community consider the latest raid to be among the easiest out of the many seen throughout the game's history, which appears to be a fair claim considering the incredible number of completions it has seen so far. According to Destiny Raid Report, around 16,900 teams have beaten the raid so far, which equates to around 101,400 individual players. Of course, it's more than likely that many teams have tackled the challenge several times by now, so it's difficult to ascertain how many different Guardians have toppled the final boss. With another day left on the clock, only time will tell how many more players will succeed in defeating the Root of Nightmares raid while it's in contest mode.

The raid activities in Destiny 2 have long been a favorite part of the game for a large portion of players, due in no small part to the endgame-level challenge and, of course, generous rewards. The launch of new raid activities are always surrounded by a great deal of excitement from the community, with countless teams clamoring to overcome the puzzles and challenges in order to claim the esteemed position of world's first.

Destiny 2: Lightfall has brought a lot of new content to the table in the form of Strand, Neomuna, the Root of Nightmares raid, and much more. That said, it has unfortunately been met with a considerable amount of criticism, much of it being directed at the narrative that it brought along. Bungie has promised a big year ahead in its most recent blog posts though, alluding to plenty of exciting new story content as fans begin the wait for The Final Shape expansion currently set to release early next year.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
