A few months ago, a Destiny 2 player was able to defeat Riven, the final boss in the Last Wish raid, solo. The feat was accomplished during this past spring’s Revelry live event that brought with it a Tonic consumable that boosted players’ ability recharge rates. While there were complaints at the time of the Tonic ruining PvP, it allowed for some incredible accomplishments including soloing the Riven fight.

But The Revelry and its Tonics are long gone; however, another Destiny 2 player has also been able to defeat Riven using a different method. Streamer Baxlyy was the one who was able to best the mechanic-heavy and difficult last fight of Last Wish. The final blow to Riven came more than seven hours into his stream of attempts, and that comes after previous play sessions that all resulted in failure as well.

The secret to beating Riven is an Arcstrider build that can do insane melee damage, which has recently gotten new buzz among Destiny 2 fans. The build involves taking the Arcstrider’s top perk tree for chaining higher-damaging melee attacks and stacking them with similar damage-boosting buffs gained from a shotgun with the One-Two Punch perk and the Liar’s Handshake exotic gauntlets. Baxlyy also used the Tractor Cannon for a general damage boost against Riven.

The run starts around 7:15:00 -

Outside of having to get the buffs up at the same time to deal damage by attacking Riven's claw, Baxlyy also had to overcome Riven’s eyes. Similar to the previous solo run by player Tazus during The Revelry, Baxlyy has to rely on RNG in order to hit the two correct eyes and prevent Riven from wiping him. Many of his failures came at this stage of the Riven boss encounter due to the low chance (some believe it is a 1/45 chance) of the eyes on the right side being the right ones to shoot.

But eventually, things went in Baxlyy's favor and he flawlessly executed the rest of the encounter using the Arcstrider melee build and successfully traversed the Ascendant Realm portion of the fight.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
