Destiny 2 was initially met with a mixed reception, yet through constant updates, the title has managed to cultivate an impressive audience. Four years in and Destiny 2 has promised further groundbreaking updates and through a statement by Bungie, players are now beginning to understand the upcoming changes. Perhaps one of the biggest shifts coming to the title will be in how the game manages rewards for players, as it seems to be a significant departure from the previous method.

There had been plenty of speculation about changes coming to Destiny 2, and they now have been confirmed. The first-person online shooter was discussed by the director of the game, Luke Smith. The director did not waste any time explaining why changes needed to be made and wrote: "To be blunt, there isn’t enough pursuit out in the world." Smith went on to detail the changes coming to the reward system in the game.

The way Aspirational Activities work in Destiny 2 will change and it "will reward players with power, items, and vanity." On top of this, these activities will no longer have reprising armor and each activity will have "at least one accessory to pursue." This will please players who enjoy these kinds of raids but there are also changes coming to the mainstay game modes. The core playlist rewards are receiving updates and the team is adding new sets of armor for the playlists. This armor is set to arrive with the next Expansion and it will share a new set of "geometry, with decals and shaders" which will be specific to the activities players engage in. Going forward these armor sets will be updated annually and there will also be a new pursuit weapon with each annual season.

The changes to the rewards will allow players to become powerful and look the way they want to, and this has been on the wishlist of Destiny 2 players for some time. There have been plenty of improvements made to Destiny 2 with frequent new seasons, but a new reward system alongside a longer season seems to be a positive step that will cater to more players. While many will want to try the annual season before deciding whether it is an improvement, on paper, this does look like a significant change that responds to previous fan criticism.

Many players had hoped that seasons would become annual and the changes in rewards seem to tie into this while appeasing other fan requests. It will be interesting to see how players will respond to these changes and whether it can increase the already impressive longevity of Destiny 2. Either way new content will likely tempt some players back to the title.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
