The Destiny 2 Revelry event is now live, and many players are certain to be currently spending time clearing through its new content and collecting its new loot. Indeed, the initial reaction to the Destiny 2 Verdant Forest has been generally positive. However, one particular aspect of the update is causing some unrest amongst the community — namely, the impact of the Destiny 2 Reveler's Tonic on PvP.

For the uninitiated, the Destiny 2 Revelry event introduced a temporary item called the Reveler's Tonic. Using this item grants an hour-long Revelry buff to a Guardian, and this buff dramatically reduces the cooldown time on their class abilities, grenades, or melee, as per the player's preference. Indeed, this is a powerful effect, and not only can the buff be used in PvE, it can be taken into all Crucible modes as well.

The ability to use the Destiny 2 Reveler's Tonic in Competitive Crucible is what is currently under fire, and a great number of players have taken to community forums to express their frustration. In particular, the issue these players are taking with the Reveler's Tonic is that the buff facilities nearly endless grenade and ability spam.

For many players, Competitive Crucible is about testing their fundamental skills in a no-frills contest that is focused around Destiny 2's core gameplay mechanic: its gunplay. These players want consistent gun fights, and squaring off against opponents that can launch a practically unending grenade assault is counter to that desire.

That said, there are undoubtedly other players that are loving the chaos that the Destiny 2 Reveler's Tonic is facilitating in PvP. This is something that is being actively acknowledged by many of the players that want the item removed from Competitive Crucible, with a number of them simply asking that it be restricted to Quickplay or be given its own playlist.

Following the community outcry, it is possible that Bungie will ultimately decide to remove the Destiny 2 Reveler's Tonic from Competitive Crucible. Alternatively, it may be here to stay until the Destiny 2 Revelry event end date, and players that find the buff particularly offensive might ultimately choose to take an unwanted, three-week break from this PvP game mode.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
