The Destiny 2 reveal trailer called “Rally the Troops” officially unveiled the hotly anticipated sequel to Destiny, but there are a number of things you may have missed in the trailer, from new enemy units to a familiar face lingering in the background.
Lord Shaxx Survived the Attack on the Last City
The Crucible Quartermaster, Lord Shaxx can be spotted with the Guardians around Commander Zavala. He’s in the background just to the left of Zavala’s right leg. An unreleased Mega Bloks set that leaked a few months ago features Shaxx fighting the Cabal in the Tower hangar, which seems almost certainly legitimate at this point. And if that scene is in fact shown in Destiny 2, it looks like he comes out on top of that skirmish.
New Cabal units, including a “Shark Dog”
As with any sequel, games tend to add new enemies to the mix to spice things up. And it looks like the Cabal have a whole stable of new enemy units to bring with them when they attack earth. One of those is a dog-like animal with an armored shark head.
There is also a behemoth Cabal unit, which could be a new kind of Centurion who appears to wield massive Solar blades.
That same enemy appears in the background of this next image, which also appears to feature a spin on the classic Phalanx unit. Unlike the shields seen in Destiny 1, this Phalanx appears to be wielding a shield fortified by energy of some kind.
Ikora Rey is a Stormcaller
For those who ever wondered what Warlock subclass Ikora Rey is (unless she can change that at will like players), she is a Stormcaller. That is especially interesting because if she always has been one, that was retroactively decided as the Stormcaller subclass was not added to Destiny until The Taken King.
Cayde-6 Wields Ace of Spades
Speaking of The Taken King, that expansion also added the Gunsmith’s bounty system, which in turn provided class-specific exotics. The Hunter exotic is Ace of Spades, a very Cayde-inspired weapon. It appears that it’s not just inspired by him, but it actually is his. He wields the weapon in this and the “Last Call” teaser trailer.
The Tower (and players’ Vaults) are gone
The summary for Destiny 2 is that “Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.”
The trailer shows the destruction of the Last City, including the Tower being completely destroyed. Not only that, but Cayde makes special mention that everyone’s “stuff” has been destroyed as well. This clip shows what appears to be a Vault going up in flames, which puts a narrative reason behind Destiny 2’s decision to be a full reset for gear and level.
That’s what Game Rant noticed in the reveal trailer for Destiny 2. But was there anything you saw that we missed? Let us know in the comments below!
Destiny 2 will launch September 8, 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
