While Destiny 2 players have warmly welcome back the Vault of Glass and King's Fall raids, there have been some complaints about the rewards for completing Master difficulty and one player believes they have a solution. In an era where weapon crafting is available, it appears to have taken away some appeal of grinding for adept raid weapons when players can craft their ideal role after unlocking the weapon frame. The player in question says the possible solution lies in the first Destiny, specifically the Age of Triumph, to incentivize players to hop back into Master Raids and defeat the forces of the Darkness awaiting guardians.
Age of Triumph was an event held in the final months of the original Destiny to celebrate guardians' accomplishments over the game's three-year lifespan and lead into Destiny 2's launch. The event saw Bungie freshen up the game's four raids by bringing them up to player levels, rework weapon drops, and freshen armor sets with new cosmetic options available. It also saw a swath of changes made to the game's other PvP and PvE options, from Lord Shaxx carrying two weekly Crucible bounties instead of one and the Daybreak modifier for Nightfalls to reduce player ability cooldowns.
It is the refreshed armor and cosmetic sets, specifically, that Reddit user BoxcarLynx suggested could help improve the reward pools for returning Master Raids. They suggest tying the ornaments into the weekly Master Raid Challenges, providing further incentive to complete challenges aside from the game's title grind. They also bring up the possibility of bringing back armor tokens tied to the Destiny 2's transmog system to further incentivize running higher-difficulty activities to acquire armor no longer available as cosmetics.
Among the Destiny community, Age of Triumph is still held up widely as one of the more popular periods of the game, especially during the original Destiny. The refreshed raids, in particular, were a big reason for this as players were constantly looking for groups to run Vault of Glass, Crota's End, King's Fall, or Wrath of the Machine at any given time, which was reflected in the amount of players wearing the refreshed armor.
As for how it could fit within Destiny 2, some players could argue the game's current gear and cosmetic systems lend themselves to BoxcarLynx's suggestions. A common complaint with the Master Vault of Glass and King's Fall raids in Destiny 2, as mentioned above, is the adept weapon pursuit is almost rendered meaningless thanks to the game's weapon crafting giving players more control of their desired roles. However, veteran players' fond memories of the Age of Triumph and related rewards could be enough to incentivize them to run Master Raids which, in turn, could get newer players to run Master Raids as well.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
