About a couple of days ago, Destiny 2 players found a major secret in the science fiction shooter's second big expansion, Warmind, with the discovery relating to an insignia in Rasputin’s chambers that appeared to be a direct reference toward some sort of puzzle needing to be solved. This revelation led to the game's Reddit community banding together in order to get to the bottom of the situation, with the users' efforts having now resulted in the puzzle being solved and a real life reward being uncovered.

The Destiny 2 enigma relating to the aforementioned emblem turned out to be an intricately scripted cipher, with various sleuths from the /r/raidsecrets subreddit having pieced together different parts of the puzzle by using the symbols to determine the relating code words. Eventually, the Redditor known as "Randomiser" solved the cipher and posted that the code had been a secret message all along, which can be read in full below:

thank you for taking the time to piece together this message, friend. the time of our final conflict is drawing closer and you and ana have an important role to play in the events to come. so watch over her, guardian. i would have no life without ana or the exoprogram. i regret that we have become strangers, but we each have a path that we must walk. and, ironically, there never seems to be enough time. tell her, rasputin's first attempt was in the right location, but the wrong moment. look here: 43.549573, -73.544868 - e

Interestingly enough, the "e" who wrote the coded letter above could be Elsie Bray – that is, the sister of Ana Bray – with the message seeming to allude that Elsie was the Exo Stranger from Destiny 1 due to the use of both "Exo" and "Stranger" so close to one another in the writing. While this will undoubtedly be a fun bit of lore for longtime Guardians coming from the first game to mull over, the coordinates given offer an even bigger surprise in Sleeping Beauty Mountain in upstate New York, with the Redditor "I_love_science" having investigated the area to find everything in the images documented by Imgur user Luxomnis below.

The black tube with the golden keyhole crest held an actual spear based on the Valkyrie, which is a weapon that Destiny 2 fans can find and use during certain missions and activities in the game's Warmind DLC that has been rewarded to "I_love_science" for being the first person on the scene. What's more is that there was also a box of gold coins, a set of notes, and a journal for visitors to record their thoughts about the whole experience. The notes were written by Warmind design lead Rob Gallerani, who asked those visiting the site to share photos of everything online for those who can't attend in person.

Taking all of this into account, this is definitely a cool way for Destiny 2's Warmind developers to engage with fans of the game outside of social media channels and the actual contents of the title that are made to be played. Sure, ARGs have been par for the course for quite a while, but this particular one is definitely a treasure to behold.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
